In the next edition of our newsletter, we will provide you with an overview of the curriculum focus for each level across our school.

An Overview of our Learning

Foundation

Over the last two weeks the Foundation students have used tissue paper to create a ‘patch work’ elephant based on “Elmer the elephant and the hippos.” All of these are on display on the windows opposite the Visual Arts room, and on the windows going down the ramp from the Art room to the Year 3/4 area.

Students also listened to the book “Two Rainbows” which explored the different colours we see in the city compared to those we see in the country. They then used their fingers or a paint brushes to create their own rainbows.

Year One/ Two

In our first session of 2020 Level 1 and Level 2 students worked on pairs to create posters about kindness and friendship. Students developed their presentation skills which they can use in their class work, including writing in ‘bubble words,’ creative and interesting borders and basic drawing.

Students used oil pastels and watercolour paints to create an underwater scene which they will use as a background for the seahorses they will create next week. They listened to Eric Carle’s “Mr Seahorse” for inspiration.

Year Three/ Four

Students worked in small groups to create a poster on the school values of Respect, Resilience and Responsibility. They chose a slogan or saying related to one of these areas, and developed their lettering skills, and presentation skills. These will be displayed in various locations around the Level 3/4 area.

Level 3 and 4 students explored the different types of printing, what is a ‘block’ and how it is used to create a print. Students used printing foam to design a block of a fish which they then used to create a number of prints which they will used to create an underwater scene.

Year Five/ Six

To start the year Level 5 and 6 students chose slogans and sayings about Respect, Responsibility and Resilience. They then worked in pairs and used lettering books to further develop their presentation skills which they can use in their class work and home work. These will be displayed around the Level 5 and 6 area.

Last week students examined the different styles and shapes of birds, and use this to create their own bird. They will then use lines and patterns to decorate their birds.
