NCCD meetings

This week I have had the pleasure of hearing the positive feedback from teachers to parents about the goals being met by their children and the adjustments made to their learning to make the curriculum accessible for all students. This has been through the PSG meetings which are planned support group meetings designed to enable formal communication between parents and teachers.  This communication is vital as it connects the learning in the classroom to learning that happens at home. we still have two more planned meeting days this term for parents to attend if their child is part of the NCCD funding allocation.

Next term, we will be moving to online bookings (similar to parent-teacher interviews).  This should make the process simpler.  Teacher time slots will be grouped together so as to allow for consistency within the classroom.  The proposed dates of these meetings will be in the last week of term 2 on Monday 22, Tuesday 23 and Wednesday 24 June.  These meetings will be a combined PSG and Parent-teacher Interview so as to allow for all families to access Parent-Teacher contact.  Normal Parent--teacher Interviews will run on Thursday 25 (3:15-8pm) and Friday 26 (till 12:30pm).  These dates have tentatively been placed in the school calendar.

In the case of School Closure due to COVID-19.

As we are all aware at the moment there is a lot of concern about the current state of schools and the possible upcoming closures.  Throughout the week staff have been preparing for such a closure. Below is a brief outline of what might be sent home with your children in the event of a school closure.

Foundation and Year 1

A pack of learning activities covering handwriting, letter identification, words and maths will be sent home with a cover letter explaining learning activities, a few take home books will be included,  and some online learning links.

Year 2/3

A cover letter with daily links/activities that can be covered. A majority of learning will be added to Google Classroom covering Literacy, Writing, Maths and some other curriculum areas.  At the moment students in year 2/3 are learning how to access Google Classroom and how to access these links.  Instructions will also be shared with parents.

Year 4/5/6

Students in the senior levels are well versed in the Google Classroom platform.  Most of their learning will be delivered via Google Classroom which will have links to studyladder, soundwaves, coding and touch typing.  Teachers have the ability to communicate and view work as it is completed by students.

Staff will be available via email during the event of a school closure.  As you can imagine, at times there may be a wait in reply.  Teachers will be available to communicate with you via email from 8:30am-3:45pm to clarify any queries you may have about the learning tasks.

Of course, if your child may have connectivity concerns due to lack of internet or technology, please make time to discuss this with your child's class teacher before the end of term 1.

If you would like to discuss anything further, please contact your child's teacher, Nicholas Boyhan or myself, or alternatively make a time to meet with us.
