Literacy

Reading - Literacy Groups will begin in week 5 of Term 1. The students will complete activities that focus on reading, speaking and listening. In Foundation, we use the Jolly Phonics program for the students to learn letter-sound relationships.

Writing - There is a writing lesson each day and students are encouraged to write using what they learn each day from Jolly Phonics. Students are also prompted with word cards from the Magic 100 Words program. Students will begin to learn the correct formation of letters through explicit handwriting lessons and by practising in their handwriting workbook.

Numeracy

Statistics and Probability - We will start the year by learning about collecting data through yes/no questions.

Number and Algebra - In this topic we will be exploring place value, practising counting and beginning to learn about addition.

Measurement and Geometry - Students will be learning to use location specific words to describe an object's position. We will also be focusing on days of the week and months of the year.

In Inquiry this term, we will be focusing on family, community and health. Students will be exploring who is in their family, where they were born, how they are related to each other and how their stories are shared. We will also be exploring how we keep healthy through food and exercise.

RE

Religious Education is integrated throughout other curriculum areas at school. This term, students will be exploring St Mary of the Cross Parish. We will visit the church and Father Andrew will show us around and explain the different parts of the church. We will also learn what it means to be a part of God’s family through exploring the sacrament of Baptism.
