Year 7 Science Excursion
In year 7 Science this term, students have been investigating plant and animal adaptations and how to classify living things. To further enhance student learning and understanding of animal adaptations, the year 7 cohort spent a day on an educational program at the Melbourne Zoo. This included time to experience animal adaptations first-hand from the wide variety of species present in the facility.
Students were also hosted by Zoo Keepers in an educational talk which enabled them to use their creativity, problem-solving skills and scientific reasoning to work out an unknown animal according to the adaptations they could see.
This was an incredibly worthwhile experience that gave context to the theory being discussed in class.

The girls team dominated the games, playing at their best all day. Having both experienced and inexperienced players, the team made sure that everyone participated equally. Some of the teams we were up against clearly played outside of school, and some had little to no experience. All of the other teams were left in tears as Lakeside beat them all!
