Executive Leadership

Spring is my favourite season of the year. It is that time of the year when everything comes to life. Trees that have been dormant start to awaken and you can hear the early chatter of birds in the morning. Spring also denotes the nearing of the end of the year, with the Year 12 students preparing for the final exams and getting ready to face the next exciting stage of their lives. I am always filled with mixed emotions at this time of the year. On the one hand, I am really excited about our Year 12 students going onto new and exciting things, be it further study, travel or entering the workforce. On the other hand, I always feel a bit of sadness that a group of wonderful young people are close to ending their time with us – the proverbial young birds about to leave the nest. My prayers and thoughts are with all of our Year 12 students as they embark upon the final leg of their Secondary school educational journey. I hope they use their remaining time as Lakeside College students to place themselves in the best position possible to achieve success in their exams and future endeavours.

ADF Long Tan Award

I was delighted to receive news two days ago that two of our students, Elijah - Year 10 and Tyler – Year 12 have been awarded the ADF Long Tan Youth Leadership and Teamwork Awards for 2022.

The Australian Defence Force (ADF) Long Tan Youth Leadership and Teamwork Awards commenced in 2006 to foster the development of youth in terms of behaviour and attributes considered essential in Australia’s future leaders.

The awards are a means to formally recognise those students who have demonstrated leadership and teamwork within their school and the broader community, and who display strong personal ethical values, such as doing one’s best, respecting others and “mateship” – aspects considered essential to the ADF and Australian Society.

Participation in the awards program is open to all Australian schools with students enrolled in Year 10 and/or Year 12.  We felt very confident putting forward both Elijah and Tyler for this very prestigious award and believe that both young men strongly reflect the values upon which the award is based.

Summer Uniform

Term 4 is traditionally the time that students are required to wear their summer uniform to school. I understand that sometimes the weather can still be a bit inclement in the first few weeks of Term 4 so if students feel they need to wear their winter uniform this period is acceptable. I ask, however, that commencing Monday 17 October, all student wear their correct full summer uniform to school.

Science Week Update

Science Week at Lakeside College

“Scientists have become the bearers of the torch of discovery in our quest for knowledge.” – Stephen Hawking The celebration of the National Science Week certainly generated a lot of excitement amongst students and teachers at Lakeside College. The Science learning area planned various activities throughout the week and the level of participation in these activities was pleasing. Science Week activities conducted mainly during lunchtimes, certainly generated awareness of the importance of science in our lives and gave students great insight into so many interesting aspects of the different Scientific domain. I express my deep gratitude to all members of the Science Faculty who shared their great passion and interest in all things scientific during this week.

In closing my newsletter piece for Term 3, I leave you with a scriptural reminder of God’s grace and great love for us from John 10:10:

"I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full."

Pray for Renewal and Fresh Beginnings

Father, thank you for a fresh start today.

Thank you for the reminder of “renewal” that spring represents to us in the earth.

You “spring forth” a new thing!

I am excited and expectant of your goodness in this spring season.

Thank you, Father! Prepare me for all the new and wonderful things you have for my life.

Help me to let go of the old things that hold me back, the things that do not bring me life, the things that keep me living in the past.

I will cling to my new identity in Christ! Help me to keep “springing forward” in my journey with you!

Amen

Blessings
