Brisbane Catholic Education have recently provided Marist College with a report following a process of review of the Religious Education program at the College. A panel of BCE staff, College staff and a nominated “critical friend”, Ms Ellen Bow from Mt St Michael’s College, met to consider documentation and commentary compiled by Marist College.

Religious Education School Program Review - Certificate of Endorsement

Marist College has been commended in the areas of:

Students and Community, focussing our rich culture of community and attention to the Religious Life of the School. Our mission and vision are clear. We have responded to changing demographics and have taken effective measures to welcome and immerse new students to College culture. The Religious Life of the College, class Religion lessons and real life are well connected. Communication is effective. As the report says, “Mission is an important and valued aspect of College life.”

Curriculum Structure and Organisation, has benefited from an intentional focus on improving the implementation of Religious Education, following review and updating of the RE curriculum. Class prayer and pastoral programs integrate Marist spiritual life into RE classes. The MCA pedagogy toolkit and online resourcing of units of work, lessons and assessment were commended.

High Quality Learning and Teaching, has been enhanced through the many Professional Development opportunities offered RE teachers. Ongoing review and improvement practices were commended, with collaborative planning, dialogue and feedback from staff highly valued.

Monitoring and Evaluation, of the RE program, planning and assessment are clearly evident. Internal moderation of student work is thorough and effective. Teachers’ accreditation status is monitored with support and sponsorship pathways offered to enable accreditation to teach RE.

The Report recommendations can be found on pages 3 and 4 of the Review Report at the link above. These recommendations give us a clear focus on implementing a process of improvement that aligns well with the College Strategic Plan 2022-2026.

We thank the reviewers, Anne Victor (Chair, Senior Manager – BCE Religious Education Services), Stephen Locke (BCE Education Officer Religious Education) and Ellen Bow (Head of RE, Mt St Michael’s College, Ashgrove) for the advice, support and challenge they have offered the RE faculty.

Congratulations and thanks to the College Staff who contributed to the Review: Danielle Lynch (Head of RE), Liam Beatty (Head of Primary), Jennifer Little (Primary Learning Leader), Mena McLean (Campus Minister), and Luke McMahon (Head of Mission).

Prayers

We pray for all those in our community who are unwell or suffering at this time.

We pray for the repose of the souls of

  • Laurine Gladwin (Grandmother of Ethan Clarke Year 11 Harold)
  • Denis Ryan (Uncle to Archie Ryan Year 11 Ridley)

We pray for the Deacon family on the loss of their daughter.

May perpetual life shine upon them and may they rest in peace.
May our loving God, with Mary and Champagnat, walk with all members of the Marist family. Amen

Let us pray to the God whose mercy endures forever

For daily life,

With its sunshine and rain,

Toil and rest,

Food and drink,

Love and friendship,

Tears and laughter -

Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good.

His mercy endures forever.

For people who love us enough

To put up with us when we are irritable,

Thoughtless, selfish, or unkind -

Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good.

His mercy endures forever.

For the generous bonus

Of knowing the love of God

Through Jesus Christ,

That in him we live and move

And have our being -

Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good.

His mercy endures for ever.

This prayer we offer through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.

Stationery Aid

Run solely by volunteers, Stationery Aid collects, sorts, cleans and delivers donated stationery items to students in need. These items can be used or unused items. Started by one of our very own Marist families it is a great way to repurpose stationery items.

We are delighted to welcome Stationery Aid as part of the MATES program. The Stationery Aid collection bin can be found outside the Studies office.

Stationery Aid is offering volunteering opportunities in the holidays if any Marist College students or families are interested in assisting. For further information about volunteering or about Stationery Aid please contact Alison Schutt Founder of Stationery Aid at alison@stationeryaid.org.

MATES Ministry

Our Marist beginnings were shaped by the caring relationship between a young country priest, Marcellin Champagant, and a group of young people, living in France in a time of great social turmoil. He chose to live among them with a great simplicity and unity and in this way he developed, in them, a confidence to rely on Jesus and a meaningful relationship with Mary. Each week they went out to surrounding villages to make Jesus known and loved, especially to those who were poor or marginalised. Marcellin as a man of action and humility and with his unwavering love of Jesus and Mary was able to transform the lives of those with whom he made contact, they in turn giving him energy and support for his mission and life. As Marists we are grateful for the young men who in turn choose to make a difference in another life and transform their own in the process by acts of generosity and service.
