Foundation News

The Foundation students looked at Inferring in Readers Workshop in our first week back, with the help of Iggy the Iguana. Some of the activities that the students completed were strategies by Harvey & Goudvis. One was called “Inferring Feelings”, where a student was asked to face away from the class and an emotion card was pinned to their back.

The students that sat on the floor had to give the standing student clues about what emotion was on their back without saying the actual emotion and by expressing a time they had felt that emotion, “I felt that way when…” and completed the clue; “my sister did not share her toys with me”. After students had shared their clues, the student at the front inferred what the feeling was.

The Foundation students completed the task with great enthusiasm, and with amazing insight. As well as, listened intently to clues, inferred what the emotion might be and made connections to their own experiences.
