Old School Friends Reunite

Class of 2021 One Year Reunion

The class of 2021 may have been the final reunion for the year, but they closed it out with a bang!  Much laughter and many hugs were shared amongst this cohort on Friday 2nd December.

It was especially wonderful to see our former Junior School Captains Jack Barber (Millward) and Serryn Eenjes (Jones) reunite.

This exciting group of young Old Girtonians have launched into their first year out of Girton with enthusiasm.  We can't wait to see where they land at their Five Year Reunion.

Classes of 2015 and 2016 Five Year Reunion

We started 2022 making up for lost time by kicking off our reunion season with the 5-Year Reunion for the Classes of 2015 and 2016 on Saturday 19th March at The Rifle Brigade in Bendigo.

It was exciting to finally reconnect this vibrant and diverse group of young Old Girtonians. Alumni have taken off in all different directions with their careers, from a radiographer, engineer, lawyer and paramedic to an actress, dance choreographercarpenter and much more.

Class of 2017 Five Year Reunion

The Class of 2017 had a most excellent time reconnecting at The National Hotel on Saturday 3rd September for their 5-year reunion.

It was great to see this wonderful group of Old Girtonians working and studying in a variety of industries; from podiatry, finance, nursing, law, IT, paramedicine, graphic design, carpentry, to event management and more.

Classes of 2010 and 2012 Ten Year Reunion

The Classes of 2010 and 2012 rekindled friendships on Saturday 2nd April for their 10 Year reunions at the Brougham Arms.

This fascinating group of Alumni have embarked on all types of careers from a GP, a teacher, a social worker and a project manager to a mechanic, a financial planner, a geologist and a member of the Navy.

Classes of 2001 and 2002 Twenty Year Reunions

It was an absolute joy to see old classmates reconnect at the 20 Year Reunion on Saturday 7th May for the classes of 2001 and 2002.

Memories were shared of Mr Jones’ Milky Way challenge, last day pranks in the Year 12 Common Room and the infamous canteen cookies.

It was especially delightful to see the founding Head of Millward, Mr John McMillan reconnect with the inaugural House Captain of Millward House, Erin Colley.

Classes of 1990, 1991 and 1992 Thirty Year Reunions

It was a blast from the past for the classes of 90, 91 and 92 at their 30-Year reunion on Saturday 11th June.

Memories were shared of learning to type on an electric typewriter, lifelong friends and pranks in the Boarding House, teachers who held a special place in their former students’ hearts, dear school friends who are no longer with us, the move across to the St Aidans campus, the devastating news that the school was closing and that one time where all the school chairs mysteriously ended up on the oval overnight.

Thank you to alumni who travelled near and far to reconnect with old friends.

Classes of 1980, 1981 and 1982 Forty Year Reunion

The Class of 1980, 81 and 82 enjoyed a night of fun on Saturday 17th September 2022 at the Brougham Arms Hotel.  Many friendships were rekindled and 40 years of memories were shared.

There are some profound connections to the school in this group, including former Headmaster, Mr Bob Bickerdike’s son Murray, who had some great stories to share and some treasured photos to add to the OGA archive.  Another guest, former Deputy Head, Mrs Dorothy Crothers gave a touching speech and two former OGA Committee Members have devoted countless volunteer hours to strengthening connections with Girton alumni.

Classes of 1970, 1971 & 1972 Fifty Year Reunion

The Classes of 1970, 71 and 72 reunited on Friday 21st October 2022 for a 50-year reunion.

Ten classmates reunited at the school for a morning tea, where they met Girton Principal, Dr Emma O’Rielly.  This was followed by a school tour with Head of Junior School, Mr Don Thompson, where there was much laughter as old tales from school were re-lived and friendships rekindled.

These lovely Old Girtonians were then farewelled as they joined others at the Wine Bank for lunch.

Special thanks to Cheryl Payne who arrived with a suitcase full of memorabilia which was very generously donated to the OGA archives.  A special mention must go to Faye who arrived in her old school uniform much to the delight of her old schoolmates.

Sixty Year Reunion - Classes 1960, 1961 and 1962

A wonderful 60-Year reunion (1958-1964) was held for Old Girtonians on Friday 4th November.

The event marked the Diamond Anniversary for 23 former students who returned to Girton to enjoy a morning tea together in the d’Helin Building, where there was joyful rekindling of friendships and exuberant conversation.

This was followed by a school tour with Head of Junior School, Mr Don Thompson, who regaled our guests with Girton folklore as they toured Frew Hall, the Higgs Hall and Girton House.  Alumni shared tales about their days as a boarder or a ‘day girl’ and spoke fondly of both Headmistress Miss Jean d’Helin and piano teacher, Miss Winifred Batterham.

It was here that we farewelled this delightful group of Old Girtonians as they moved on to The National to share in a long lunch together.
