From the Classroom

Foundation

Can you believe this is our last term in Foundation? I am excited for their learning and be part of their development as well as preparation for Grade One next year. This week we have focussed on the Letter X, name, sound, correct formation of the lower case and words that we can hear its sound.  Which is actually 2 sounds represented by 1 letter… x makes the sound ks.  We have made a list of cvc words ending with this sound, such as Rex, wax, Max, fox, box, mix, fix, six.  We have now covered all letter of the alphabet and now progressing on to double letters and digraphs.

I am always stressing the importance of home reading… and what you do at home can make a huge difference! Please remember that the “My Reading Log” is a record of your homework.  I will also take into an account, time spent using Reading Eggs at home. I receive a weekly email of each student who utilises this app out of school hours. Fast phonics is excellent for revising and consolidating sounds. The Library is worth viewing as well.

Our first week back after holidays has been filled with Swimming and preparation for our Whole School Concert. The children have enjoyed our non-fiction book each day on EPIC covering this sport. Building our knowledge and vocabulary on this topic, while actually going to the pool each day has been such a keen interest for them.  The end of the week is nearing and the children are now very tired after swimming each day. Mr Thompson has done an amazing job getting the boys out of their swimmers, dressed and ready to load the bus back to school.  Three cheers for Mr Thompson!!!
