DEPUTY PRINCIPAL - CURRICULUM

PARENTS OF STUDENTS IN YEAR 9

Students currently in Year 9 who did not achieve a minimum of Band 8 in one or more domains of the 2022 NAPLAN test are required to complete the Online Literacy and Numeracy Assessment (OLNA) for the relevant component in Term 2 of Year 10, 2023. Parents/caregivers of affected students will soon be advised via email.

RESULTS FOR ROUND 2 OF THE ONLINE LITERACY AND NUMERACY ASSESSMENT (OLNA)

The College will receive the student results for Round 2 of OLNA in the coming week. Students and parents/caregivers will receive notification of results as soon as they are processed by the College.

YEAR 10 SEMESTER TWO EXAMINATIONS

Year 10 students will complete their Semester Two Examinations between Thursday 24 November and Friday 2 December. Mrs Rachel Alssop (Assistant Deputy Principal - Year 10) is in the process of finalising the Year 10 Examination Timetable.

Students should expect to complete examinations for a greater number of subjects than in Semester Two, including some elective subjects. More detailed information regarding Year 10 Examinations will be provided in the very near future.

YEAR 11 SEMESTER TWO EXAMINATIONS

A reminder that Year 11 students who are currently studying ATAR courses will sit their Semester Two Examinations between Monday 7 November and Friday 18 November. The Year 11 Examination Timetable is available below.

CONGRATULATIONS AND THANK YOU TO YEAR 12 STUDENTS AND THEIR PARENTS

I take this opportunity to thank and congratulate ALL Year 12 students of the Class of 2022. To say that the past three years have been challenging for our students would be a massive understatement.

I am so proud of our students - their persistence, perseverance, determination and sacrifices.

Thank you, thank you, thank you to all students for everything you have done for Sacred Heart College! I wish all Year 12 students every success in the future.

I also thank and congratulate all parents/caregivers for everything you have done for your child to help them to reach this point and for your support of the College.

COVID - ABSENCE FROM ATAR COURSE EXAMINATIONS

With the changes in the State’s advice related to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Authority has reverted to pre-COVID arrangements for students who are absent from an examination due to illness. Should a student be absent from an examination due to illness, then a Sickness/Misadventure application must be submitted to SCSA with Section D of the application completed by a medical practitioner.

Should a student be unwell with COVID-19 symptoms (such as fever, cough, sore/scratchy throat, shortness of breath, loss of taste or sense of smell), they should not attend the examination venue and must submit a Sickness/Misadventure application with Section D of the application completed by a medical practitioner as soon as possible.

Given the uncertainty of the COVID-19 context, students should stay abreast of current messaging about the COVID-19 pandemic in their area in the time leading up to and during the examinations.

If a student or their parents/caregivers have any questions relating to the conduct of the WACE Examinations, they should contact the School Curriculum and Standards Authority (SCSA) on 9273 6377. SCSA runs the ATAR Course Examinations - Sacred Heart College simply provides the venue.

SCSA will be updating their website to reflect this information.

ATAR COURSE EXAMINATION KEY REMINDERS

  • All Year 12 ATAR students have been requested to provide a ‘best contact’ mobile number in the SCSA Student Portal. This mobile number will be used if SCSA need to contact students urgently via SMS during the examination period. Please encourage your son/daughter to log in to the portal and update the mobile number field.
  • Students sitting ATAR Course Examinations and their parents/caregivers should read the SCSA 2022 Year 12 Information Handbook, particularly Part II which is about examinations.
  • If a student is enrolled in a Year 12 ATAR course they must sit the ATAR Course Examination for that course. If a student does not sit the ATAR Course Examination or does not make a reasonable attempt and does not have an approved Sickness/Misadventure application, the student will not have a course mark or grade recorded for that course.
  • SCSA have uploaded the front covers for ATAR Examinations to their website. Students can now download their Personalised Written Examination Timetable and Personalised Practical Examination Timetable from the SCSA Student Portal. These timetables feature the date, time and examination centre (venue) for the WACE Examinations.
  • The written 2022 ATAR Course Examination Timetable is available HERE.
  • Students are reminded that they are NOT permitted to use GEL PENS for their ATAR Course Examinations.
  • All Year 12s are encouraged to use the subject syllabus and past examination papers as primary tools in preparing for their examinations.

TIME AND VENUE

Although the majority of the Written ATAR Course Examinations will be at Sacred Heart, some students will attend an alternate venue. Students are encouraged to visit these venues prior to the ATAR Course Examination so that they are familiar with the location and are encouraged to allow plenty of travel time.

The majority of ATAR Course Examinations will be held in MLC6/7 located in the McInerney Learning Centre (old gymnasium). Students with special conditions will complete examinations in MLC4 (upstairs) .

UNIFORM FOR ATAR COURSE EXAMINATIONS

Students completing Practical ATAR Course Examinations are reminded that they are NOT permitted to carry or wear anything that can identify them or their school, sporting club or achievements. If this does occur, students may be referred to the Breach of Examination Rules Committee and significant mark penalties may apply.

Sacred Heart students attending our College venues for Written Examinations will be permitted to wear either their summer school uniform or their sports uniform. Students can also wear their Leavers Jumpers.

ATAR COURSE EXAMINATION SICKNESS AND MISADVENTURE PROCEUDRE

If a student is seeking an approved absence due to Sickness/Misadventure, they must ensure that the completed 2022 Sickness and Misadventure Form  is received by SCSA (PO Box 816 Cannington WA 6987) no later than 4:00pm on Tuesday 22 November, along with any medical evidence, to be considered. Envelopes should be marked Confidential –  Attention Carolyn Hackett. Electronic applications are not accepted.

Applications related to only the practical examination should be submitted immediately following that examination. All applications related to written examinations should be submitted immediately following the last examination affected by the situation. Late forms will not be accepted.

Students will not receive any consideration unless they have suffered an acute episode of the illness during the Examination period. Please note that long-term illness falls outside SCSA's policy and guidelines for sickness/misadventure.

Parents are requested to contact Mr Tony Budas (Assistant Deputy Principal - Year 12) if there is any possibility of your child missing a ATAR Examination due to sickness/misadventure.
