Literacy - Term Three

WRITING

This term in Writing we have been working on Information Reports. We started the term doing review lessons covering the features and structure of an informative text using examples. Students then started working on their own information booklet about a chosen animal. Students chose between an elephant, hippopotamus, giraffe or flamingo to research and complete their information booklet. All students have done a fabulous job completing their books.

READING

In Reading this term our focus text has been 'The 27th Annual African Hippopotamus Race' by Morris Lurie. Each week this term we read and summarised 2 chapters from the text. Through this text we have been learning about challenging yourself, doing your personal best, friendship, being inspirational and making positive choices.

After finishing the texts students completed a book review about the text where they summarised the text, shared their favourite characters, their recommendation of the text, an illustration and rating of the book out of 5 stars.

PRODUCTION

Congratulations to all the Year Two students for a wonderful production.

It was amazing to see the students perform on the stage, they were very cute munchkins! Thank you to all the parents for your assistance with the costumes.

Take Home Readers and Spelling Books

As part of InitiaLit-2, students have free-choice of short and extended chapter books to take home and read. Year Two students are able to choose readers from school to take home and read nightly. Students in Year Two are also free to choose books from home to read each night if they wish. Students who choose their readers on a Monday are required to return them the following Monday. After reading, please record the name of the book and the length of time reading in the student diary for the day.

InitiaLit-2 suggests students practice spelling words at home each week. These spelling words will reinforce the words used in the classroom program. Instructions for the Spelling book are on the front cover of the Spelling book.

Tissues

Thank you to those families that have sent along a box of tissues to be used in your child's classroom. We would love for you to consider sending one in if you are yet to do so.
