Literacy - Term Three

READING

For Reading this term, students in Year One have continued their participation in the InitiaLit program. Each student has made improvements in their reading abilities. This has been seen in our weekly reading conferences and progress monitoring.

WRITING

This term in Writing we have been focusing on Information Reports. Working together as a class, we went through the process of researching a topic and making notes. Those notes were then rewritten into Super Sentences. During our lessons we covered the features and structure of an informative text.

In our free choice writing lessons, students are encouraged to have ownership about what they would like to write about, as long as they focus upon working towards their writing goals. Students are always given an opportunity to share their writing and receive feedback from their classmates.

PRODUCTION

Congratulations to all the Year One students for a wonderful production!

It was amazing to see the students perform on the stage, we are so proud of each one of them! They all made wonderfully cute witches!

Term Three Tricky Words

Through the InitiaLit program a range of Tricky Words are taught. These words are referred to as Tricky Words as they cannot be spelled by sounding them out. After reading with your child, feel free to extend them by practising the words below.

 Home Readers

For every person reading is an important life long skill. We strongly encourage reading everyday to support your child's consolidation of this ability.  This term, one to two readers will be given out on a Monday and changed over the following Monday. This change will allow more opportunities for your child to practise their reading.

Readers will be given on a Monday and are required to be returned on the following Monday.
