What a busy few weeks we have had in the Health & Physical Education Curriculum!

Curriculum Update

Foundation:

Over the past few week's the Foundation Students have participated in a unit which incorporated the Fundamental Movement Skill of kicking. The sport soccer was utilised to teach the students the basic skills. Some of the skills taught were kicking with the inside of their foot, how to stop a ball which is in motion, passing the ball to another player and a modified version of dribbling by foot. The students moved through different stations to enhance their confidence with the basic skills and further develop their understanding of the core concepts involved with kicking.

Moving forward the students will looking at a unit around bouncing whilst also completing another portfolio task about sportsmanship, respect, responsibility and resilience in sport.

Year One/Two:

Over the last couple of week's the Level 1 & 2 students concluded their four-week soccer program delivered by an accredited soccer coach. Their development over the course of the program was fantastic. Their level of confidence grew and their ability to apply the learned skills to activities was exceptional.

After concluding the soccer program, the students moved into a unit around striking. To learn the basic skills, both individual and small team games were played to apply both the two-hand strike and one-hand strike. Once the students were confident in using these skills, we play a game of indoor hockey.

Moving forward the students will continue to build upon their striking skills, but before the term ends, we will complete a portfolio task based around the topic of personal strengths and traits.

Year Three/Four:

Over the past few weeks, the Level 3 & 4 students have participated lessons which constitute the development of both the striking and kicking skills. These skills have been taught through small-skill based activities whereby each students has the opportunity to practise and execute the skill. Once the students all demonstrated a solid level of confidence, the skills were then applied to team-based games such as Kickball, Indoor Soccer, Rounders and Thunder Hockey.

To conclude the term, the Level 3 & 4 students will continue practise their kicking and striking skills in a variety of team sports. They will also complete the term portfolio task around identifying their personal strengths and traits.

Year Five/Six:

Over the past few weeks, the Level 5 & 6 students have participated lessons which constitute the development of both the striking and kicking skills. These skills have been taught through small skill-based activities whereby each students has the opportunity to practise and execute the skill. Once the students all demonstrated a solid level of confidence, the skills were then applied to team-based games such as Kickball, Indoor Soccer, Rounders and Thunder Hockey.

To conclude the term, the Level 5 & 6 students will continue practise their kicking and striking skills in a variety of team sports. They will also complete the term portfolio task around the bodies energy systems.
