Our Excursion to Scienceworks

On Thursday the 4th of August MLA went on our first excursion of 2022 to SCIENCEWORKS. We were so excited to take our learning about forces out of the classroom, make some connections and explore some hands on activities. The MLA students demonstrated our school dispositions of curiosity, resilience, risk taking and collaboration

We participated in the BLAST OFF! session where the presenter spoke about the forces needed to launch rockets into space!

We completed an experiment to explore how the force of air moving in one direction can propel balloon in the opposite direction, much like a rocket!

Think Ahead imagines how advances in science will change the way we live.

The students explored objects from the past, the present and the speculative future, this exhibition blended technology with hands-on experiences.

Sports world: Stretch your mind and your muscles.

The students were able to put their sports skills to the test and investigate their body's abilities in a range of different ways.

Beyond Perception: Seeing the Unseen.

Students immersed themselves in large-scale experience that reveals the invisible fields and forces that surround us, such as gravitational waves, invisible light, sound and aerodynamics.

What some of the MLA students had to say:

"Scienceworks gave me a different experience, I learnt how astronauts lived in space and I thought it was interesting to see how technology can help people with a disability. I thought it was really fun and creative." - Harriet MLA1

"I loved the blast off show as I learn more about rockets and how they launch into space." - Jeolina MLA2

"I liked it because we could interact with things and I liked all the stations in the sports area and learnt that sports can be fun in all different ways. My favourite part was the virtual soccer." - Anthony MLA3

"I loved the excursion today. It was lots of fun, especially when we got to race in the sport area." - Grace D MLA3

"I enjoyed the sports area because there were lots of cool things there. I liked the experiment with the balloon and string because we found out that when you let the balloon go on the string it goes straight and when you just let it go it goes everywhere. It was heaps of fun!" - Sienna MLA2

"I enjoyed the Blast Off! show and the experiments that were shown to us." - Alanah MLA2

THANK YOU:

A big thank you to all the parent helpers who came with us to Scienceworks, we really appreciate you taking the time to come and explore with us.
