Mia Mitris, U12 Tennis

On Thursday 21st July, Year 6 student and School Captain Mia Mitris played the Bruce Cup Tennis Championships at Boorondara.  Originally to try out, Mia was one of 300 Under 12s who nominated, and she was successful in making the short list of 16 to play in the Bruce Cup.  From there a team of 7 players for the Victorian Team was selected.

“I played really well but the competition was just too tough for me this year so I was unsuccessful for a spot in the Vic Team this year.  There were a lot of much taller and stronger players, but I guess there is always next year again.” – Mia.

Congratulations Mia on your success of making it this far, but also your persistence in training and effort to play at such a high level.  You should be very proud of yourselves, as we at school are of you!

Division AFL Finals, St Joseph the Worker

St Joseph the Worker’s SLA AFL team, came top of their ladder in the weekly Keon Park Interschool Sports fixtures last term and progressed to the Division final against St Raphael’s Preston and Bell Primary (Northcote).

“The first game was against St Raph’s which we went down 19-6, but despite the loss we all worked well as a team and I as a player was impressed that we made it to the finals level when not all of us play for a team outside of school.  We really had to fight!” – Jess.

“Our second match was against Bell Primary had a massive 50 point difference (60-7) but we pushed to play at a really high level and still had fun in the process.” – Josh.

“We didn’t play too badly, and did as much as we could. We tried our best.” – Christian and Hari.

Congratulations to our Year 5/6 team: you played really well to get to this stage, and also against the strongest teams from other Districts.  Well done!
