Message from the Principal

Dear Parents and Guardians,

It has been a busy few weeks at St Joseph the Worker.  We congratulated our Preps on achieving their first 100 days at our school.  Our SLA students recently visited the Mary McKillop Centre in East Melbourne and the Melbourne Arts Centre to see the indigenous production at Hamer Hall called William Barton Sky Songs.  Yesterday, our MLA students visited Scienceworks and in coming weeks, JLA and Prep will also be attending excursions.  Please make sure you read about these important learning opportunities that our students have enjoyed in the newsletter today.

Football Finals

Congratulations to our SLA students who recently competed in Football Division Finals last week.  Whilst we didn’t win, l have been most impressed by the attitude of our students during their participation in interschool sports this year.  Our students always give their best at every game and are always respectful towards other teams and their abilities.  Special thanks to Sally for coaching the team this year and Xavier and James, for their support with interschool sport.

School Absentee

Just a reminder that if your child is going to be absent from school, you must submit the Absentee eForm via Skoolbag.  If your child is absent from school and you have not submitted an eForm, your child will be marked as unexplained, and you will receive an SMS notification about this.

We also ask that you avoid picking up your child early from school as this disrupts their learning. Early pickups should only be for an emergency or for an appointment that cannot be scheduled out of school hours.  Thank you for your support in this matter.

2023 School Year

Planning is already underway for the 2023 school year.  If your family is moving away from the area and your children will not be attending St Joseph the Worker next year, please send me an email as soon as possible and please let us know which school you are moving to, so we can arrange the required transfer documents.

School Uniform

With the disruption of the past couple of years, a bit of inconsistency has begun to appear in the wearing of our school uniform.  The prescribed school uniform is compulsory, and all students are required to wear the appropriate school uniform at all times. Only items purchased from the Academy Uniform Shop are to be worn.  Variations to the uniform will not be accepted.

As per our uniform policy, the winter uniform for all students is the winter shirt with logo. The polo top cannot be worn with the Winter uniform.  Students are expected to wear black leather shoes (Velcro, lace up or T-bar). Black runners or sneakers are not permitted to be worn with the summer or winter uniform.

Parents are required to provide their child/children with a school uniform that meets the school uniform requirements and if you are unable to do so, please contact me to discuss your concerns.

CECV Statement of Commitment to Child Safety

l have included the Catholic Education Commission Victoria Statement of Commitment to Child Safety in this newsletter.  As you are aware, all Child Safety policies have been updated and this statement reflects the revised Child Safe standards effective July 1 2022.

 School Closure Days

Just a reminder that our school will be closed on Tuesday, 16th August and Wednesday, 17th August for staff development days.  Theircare will be operating on these two days and families can book their child in via the website https://theircare.com.au/

Looking forward

Please check the newsletter 2022 dates section to see what’s happening in coming weeks at St Joseph the Worker.  There are lots of events to look forward to, including Father’s Day assembly, School Disco for our students and Confirmation for our Year 6 students, just to name a few.

May St Joseph the Worker bless you and watch over you and your family at this time.

Regards

Maria Barnes
