MND FUNDRAISER
LIKE MINDS MND FUNDRAISER
The Like Minds class held a fund raiser day to support Motor Neurone Disease (MND) on Tuesday 2nd, by having a free dress day (with a splash of blue) and a BBQ. The day was a huge success with $313.65 being raised for the cause.
Motor Neurone Disease (MND) is the name given to a group of diseases in which motor neurones progressively die. Motor neurones are nerve cells that control the movement of voluntary muscles, that is, muscles that are under conscious control. These include all the muscles of the arms, legs, back and neck and of speech, swallowing and breathing.
The splash of blue to recognise MND comes from the blue cornflower. The blue cornflower (Centaurea cyanus) was adopted by MND Australia as the national symbol of hope for MND, because of its fragile appearance but hardy nature. Like the cornflower, people living with MND show remarkable strength in coping with a devastating disease.
Well done to the Like Minds class and to everyone who participated.
