YEAR 6 EXHIBITION

This week, we will be launching the beginning of ‘Exhibition’ with the Year Six students.

In the students’ final year of the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program (PYP), which occurs in Year Six, students participate in an Exhibition. Students engage in a collaborative, transdisciplinary inquiry process that involves them in identifying, investigating and offering solutions to real-life issues or problems. Through this process, they implement the essential elements of the PYP and celebrate their learning by sharing the learning from their inquiry with the whole school community.

Purpose

The PYP exhibition has a number of key purposes:

• for students to engage in an in-depth, collaborative inquiry exploring multiple perspectives

• to provide students with an opportunity to demonstrate independence and responsibility for their

own learning

• for students to synthesise and apply their learning of previous years and to reflect upon their journey

through the PYP

• to provide an authentic process for assessing student understanding

• to demonstrate how students can take action as a result of their learning

• to unite the students, teachers, parents and other members of the school community in a collaborative experience that incorporates the essential elements of the PYP

• to celebrate the transition of learners from primary to middle/secondary education.

Students are involved in the design of the inquiry and have agency (voice, choice, ownership, leadership) over their learning. They will work with a group on a negotiated real life issue of interest and will be required to complete both independent and collaborative learning opportunities. Students will be supported by the team of Grade 6 teachers as well as mentor teachers from across the school.

Exhibition culminates in the celebration of the student’s learning through a presentation to the school community. This is one of the many highlight of the year for our Grade 6 students.
