OPEN EVENING

Our students invite parents and their families to come to the Open Evening this Thursday (4:00 – 6:00pm).

Our students show a great deal of pride in their school, so this is an opportunity for them to ‘show and tell’ what they do in each of the classroom areas, including the newly refurbished library and outdoor classroom. Many of our students haven’t yet seen the two new rooms on the third floor of the main building. One of these is used as a teachers’ planning and staffroom, and the other is where the instrumental music lessons take place.

Our Open Evening is also an opportunity for prospective families to view the school and its grounds in an informal way.

In our newly renovated areas, there will be pin boards displaying photos of what the areas used to look like prior to the improvements.

We hope that you can find half an hour to enjoy our school’s learning environment and to see why our students love their school so much.

TAG ON

Last year, our school obtained a grant from the Glen Eira Council to implement a strategy that encouraged physical activity in our students. After some research we decided to purchase the ‘Tag On’ system which encourages students to ‘actively travel’ to and from school (eg walking, riding, scooting).

Even if parents park their car at the end of the street and students walk the rest of the way, the children can use their fob to ‘tag on’ and say they ‘walked’.

This will help our current traffic congestion and the numerous problems we have encountered this year as a result.

Parents can choose to receive a daily email that indicates the time the child ‘tagged on’ at school and the method by which they came. I’m sure this will be comforting to many parents to know their child arrived safely. Students who ‘tag on’ receive a house point and another point if they actively travelled to school.

The Year 6 House Captains are monitoring the Tag On use. If your child hasn’t yet received a fob (to Tag On with), it’s because the parent consent form hasn’t been returned. If your child loses their fob, a replacement will cost $2.00.

CARNIVAL-

Saturday 20 August

There are only 4 weeks left until the carnival. I would like to take this opportunity to thank our parents and school community for your incredible support of our fundraising efforts.

All money raised will be going to the purchase and installation of air conditioners to all classrooms in the main building.

A big thank you to our Parent Class Reps who are organising volunteers to help on the day of the carnival in operating the stalls.

Entertainment at the School Carnival

Students are invited to come along to ‘Talent Club’ at school on Monday lunch times to practice routines they’d like to perform on stage at the carnival. In the two weeks prior to the carnival, we will hold Talent Club twice a week so students increase precision in their routines and confidence.

The entertainment on stage will be non stop with community groups performing as well as school groups.

Over the next two weeks, we’d love your help with the following:

Donations of chocolate bars (for the ‘Choc-O-Lob’ stall (eg. Picnic or Mars Bars, Cherry Ripes, small blocks of chocolate. In other words, chocolate bars, rather than small wrapped chocolates).
Raffle Tickets – each child has received 9 tickets (3 for $10 or one ticket for $5). The prizes are incredible.
Donations of bottles of wine- for the ‘Win-a-Wine’ stall (parents, please bring to the office)

NATIONALLY CONSISTENT COLLECTION OF DATA ON SCHOOL STUDENTS WITH DISABILITY (NCCD)

Every year, all schools in Australia participate in the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD). The NCCD process requires schools to identify information already available in the school about supports provided to students with a disability. These relate to legislative requirements under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 and the Disability Standards for Education 2005, in line with the NCCD guidelines (2019).

Information provided about students to the Australian Government for the NCCD includes:

year of schooling
category of disability: physical, cognitive, sensory or social/emotional
level of adjustment provided: support provided within quality differentiated teaching practice, supplementary, substantial or extensive.

This information assists schools to:

formally recognise the supports and adjustments provided to students with disability in schools
consider how they can strengthen the support of students with disability in schools
develop shared practices so that they can review their learning programs in order to improve educational outcomes for students with disability.

The NCCD provides state and federal governments with the information they need to plan more broadly for the support of students with disability.

The NCCD will have no direct impact on your child and your child will not be involved in any testing process.

The school will provide data to the Australian Government in such a way that no individual student will be able to be identified – the privacy and confidentiality of all students is ensured. All information is protected by privacy laws that regulate the collection, storage and disclosure of personal information.
