Service Learning news: Connecting with community

The Nappy Collective sorting day

Close your eyes and picture the School Hall. Now imagine it filled with 48,000 nappies, 30 Shelford students, 4 parents, 9 Shelford staff members and 24 community volunteers. This is The Nappy Collective, Sorting Day.

Our first volunteers arrived at 8am and many did not stop until their time was up. Founder, Sandra Jacob and CEO, Sarah Witty shared personal and heart-breaking stories, providing us with a good understanding of ‘nappy stress’ and how a program like this, can often be the difference between a parent spending their last few dollars on nappies or nourishing themselves. The sorted nappies will now be transported to 31 organisations across Victoria and then into the hands of those in need.

I have to say that I could not have been prouder of our Shelford volunteers. You showed true heart and dedication to an important cause. Go into your week knowing that you made a difference.

Shelford Winter Appeal

In the coming weeks we will be reaching out to our whole school community, asking you to start collecting non-perishable food items to support another local and incredibly worthy charity. Their team have worked tirelessly throughout winter to care for our most vulnerable locals. Why not start now by clearing out your pantry or asking your daughter to choose a few items to add to the weekly grocery list or giving them a small budget to select some items themselves.
