MICHAEL YMER PARTNERSHIP NIGHT

Thank you to all the families that participated in our Family Maths Night.  It was a very informative and enjoyable experience that provided wonderful insights into how to support your son or daughter with their maths learning.

Chatting to some of our families who attended the night, the overall thought was it was a fantastic session that provided them with lots to think about and a few strategies to use at home.

Some of our family’s key take outs included:

“The big take out for me is, it’s more about the physical interaction and the visual understanding than a worksheet. When Michael said you need to understand their lack of understanding through the eyes of an eight year old rather than through the eyes of a 40 year old with life experiences, this really resonated with me.  It was a fun session, and we will definitely be doing some of the games at home.”
Sonia (Greenhills Parent)

“It was really, really fantastic! Michael was interesting and engaging. I wish I could have done something like this when my kids were younger.”
Emma (Greenhills Parent)

“I thoroughly enjoyed the Math for Parents session last night. Michael explained in a fun and engaging session that a 10 year old child does not have the life experience of an adult to approach math the same way, the difference between numeracy and math and gave practical examples of how to break down concepts to help your child understand math at all ages. I am excited about using these strategies to support my daughter with her learning. An easy tip for all, bring out the board games!”
Jamie (Greenhills Parent)

INCIDENT IN STAFF CARPARK

After school on Wednesday an OSHClub team member’s car was damaged. Unfortunately, their back window was smashed making it unsafe to drive. This was a very unfortunate incident and would appreciate anyone who has knowledge of this incident to please let us know.

CAR PARKING BEFORE & AFTER SCHOOL

Do you model our G.R.E.A.T. values each morning and afternoon?

This week I was contacted by a neighbour informing me that during pick up and drop off times their driveway is often blocked by people waiting to collect children.  Could I remind everyone to be considerate when dropping off and picking up your child/children and only park in designated parking places.

Grit = is the ability to keep working towards a goal and overcoming challenges and sticking with it even when it’s hard. You can model grit during the challenge of the morning and afternoon drop off by following the road and parking rules all of the time, even when it might be an easier thing not to!

Respect = not parking across the driveways of our neighbours. It is hard to believe this happens and even harder to hear that when asked not to do this, a parent has responded rudely. Let’s all treat our neighbours like we would our own family members.

Effort = it does take effort and energy to get going in the morning and leave the house with plenty of time to make the drop off as smooth and calm as possible. You can model the importance of doing this every day, even on those days when it’s cold, rainy or when you haven’t had enough sleep.

Adventure = why not park a bit further away and walk up to school or have your child/ren walk part of the way home and have a meeting spot not too far away? This builds the independence of your child/ren, which has many positive spin offs at school as well. Even just using the “kiss and drop” off in the morning works well. In recent times seeing our students say good bye at the car and walk into school has certainly made the school mornings much more settled.

Teamwork = we all need to remember that our Greenhills school community includes all of our neighbours as well. If we look after everyone in our community by doing the right thing all of the time, we all make our school and the local area a better place to live and learn.

CURRICULUM DAY - SCIENCE FOCUS

Wednesday 8th August

On Wednesday the 3rd of August, teachers will participate in a Science Curriculum Day. This will be a valuable chance to unpack the Science curriculum and explore how to best teach the concepts and inquiry skills needed in each year level. Importantly, we will work across year levels to develop a sequence and steady progression of learning in each area of the Science curriculum.  Our curriculum day will generate excitement and support teachers to develop their knowledge and skills in delivering effective Science learning in their classroom.

OSHClub will be available on the day. Please contact OSCHClub for booking details 0437 928 183 or greenhills@oshclub.com.au
