Relationship based Education (RbE) Parent Session

“Relationships are the number one predictor of a long and happy life.” Donna Cross, Western Australian of the Year

Dear Families,

On Tuesday evening this week, John Hendry OAM ran a parent session in the gym, which was greatly attended. He has been working with staff and now parents on Relationship based Education (RbE). He talked about the five key elements of a relationship: trust, forgiveness, integrity, hope, and compassion. John’s work has the full endorsement of Parents Victoria.

John shared stories from his experience in working in education for over fifty years, and also some personal stories. One story about his younger brother and forgiveness brought tears to the eyes of many guests. He also shared a powerful 12-minute TED talk on the power of relationships titled, ‘What makes a good life? Lessons from the longest study on happiness…..

‘What keeps us happy and healthy as we go through life? If you think it's fame and money, you're not alone – but, according to psychiatrist Robert Waldinger, you're mistaken. As the director of 75-year-old study on adult development, Waldinger has unprecedented access to data on true happiness and satisfaction. In this talk, he shares three important lessons learned from the study as well as some practical, old-as-the-hills wisdom on how to build a fulfilling, long life.’ Click here to watch.

I would like to thank the parents and staff who attended the evening. There was such positive feedback about the session. John will be working with our staff and students in separate year levels on relationships early next term.
