Students and Old Virgilians in the News

Glenorchy and North Hobart’s round 17 of the Tasmanian Statewide Football League encounter at KGV Oval took on additional significance, with the Magpies and Demons playing in the League’s inaugural ‘Pride Cup’ match this Saturday.

This was the Tasmanian State League’s first ‘Pride Cup’ game, with the initiative aimed to celebrate and promote inclusion and diversity, while creating a safe space for all people within the sport.

Two of the College’s more recent students Glenorchy’s Tom McGann and North Hobart’s George McLeod  (SVC 2016-19 for both) were featured in the press as part of the promotion preceding the inaugural “pride Cup’ match.  Both are in their first full year with senior sides.

OTHER FOOTBALL NEWS

Harrison McLeod, one of our current Year 10 students and younger brother of George, is making his mark on the football field. He was an integral part of the Tasmanian Under 16 side that won the Division 2 of the national football competition – the team was unbeaten in its matches against the development squads from Northern Territory, Sydney Swans, Brisbane Lions, GWS Giants and Gold Coast Suns.

He has also played five senior games with North Hobart seniors this year.

Unfortunately, classmate, Nathaniel Sulzberger, who played three senior games with North Hobart last year as a Year 9 student, has had ongoing injury problems and has only managed one senior game for 2020.
