Sports Report #3 – Inter RR, Year 7 RR, Athletics Carnival

INTERMEDIATE ROUND ROBIN

Intermediate Tennis

The intermediate boys and girls played interschool tennis on the 23/2 against Glen Waverley, Highvale and Mount Waverley.

They boys came 3rd and the girls came 2nd.

Intermediate Girls Cricket

The Intermediate Girls Cricket team

Intermediate Girls cricket team represented that College in the Division Final.

It was a nail-biting affair which consisted of some fantastic individual and team performances for the duration of the 25 overs. Some decisions unfortunately did not fall the way of our VSC girls which resulted in the team going down narrowly by 5 runs to Mount Waverley.

All players should be commended on their high level of professionalism and persistence throughout the day.

Intermediate Boys/Mixed Cricket

A great day was had at Mulgrave Reserve and our Inter cricket team performed extremely well. The team is full of top end fast bowling talent and congratulations to Zac S, Taj G, Luke B and Tom M for terrific efforts, fast and accurate. In both games our bowlers restricted the run rates to less than 4.5 per over. This made it quite comfortable for our batters to reach the targets quickly.

All in all a terrific team effort and bring on the next rounds....in term 4.

Intermediate Boys/Mixed Baseball

The intermediate baseballers experienced some challenges in the lead up to the day with players coming in and out.

Despite this, the team were able to compete and have some fun.

Well done to all players involved for giving it a go!

Intermediate Girls Softball

A fantastic day was had by the Intermediate Girls Softball team!

We hit them high, low, fast and slow!

The team was supportive of one another and demonstrated outstanding sportsmanship on the day, one of the many highlights of the day was Rituja’s grand slam home run, that’s right 4 runs scored in one mighty bases-clearing swing of the bat. Even the umpire came over to congratulate the team after this amazing feat. Unfortunately, we ran out of time in the game and came up just 2 runs short of victory.

Game 2 was an absolute highlight reel of plays, the defense was rock solid in the field and the offence with the bat was sending balls all over the field at Napier Park, the team held onto their lead and won game 2.

The greatest efforts on the day however were the Vermont values on full display and exemplified by every player on the day.

I was extremely proud of the effort and result and hope to see the team back next year!

Intermediate Boys/Mixed Volleyball

Sensational day for Vermont Volleyball at Maroondah Nets on Wednesday the 23rd of February. Other coaches were envious of the height and talent we had in our 2 teams.

Both A and B teams won all day making it into the finals. B team came through with an easy win in 2 sets over Mount Waverley.

The A team gave us a show, coming back from 3 match points in the second set to take the third 10 to 3 over Mount Waverley.

Excellent efforts for both teams, showing high level of skills which we will be taking to EMR finals in March!

Intermediate Girls Volleyball

Round 1 of the intermediate girls volleyball was a great success! The enthusiasm of the players pulled us through the day. The B team won straight 4 games, with confidence and teamwork.

The A team faced challenges playing Glen Waverley, closely losing to them in game 3.

A's pressure rose we faced them again in the final game. After losing the first set our skills rose, and we played to our strengths. We came back with a great win advancing us through to Regionals on the 28th.

All players gave their best efforts, and thank you to everyone who helped on the day including Ms Eccles and Mr Mizzi. Go Vermont !

YEAR 7 ROUND ROBIN

Girls Softball

Congratulations to the Year 7 girls softball team who had a successful day at the Division competition at Napier Park. The team won two very close games against Mount Waverley and Glen Waverley to finish the day as the overall competition winners. The girls are to be commended on their enthusiasm and willingness to practice and listen to feedback at training. The students’ progress, playing a sport that many of the team had not played at a competitive level was impressive as they learnt many technical rules and strategies over the course of our training and the round robin.

A big thank you to Maggie D, Rituja T and Georgia H for their assistance in helping coach the Year 7 students and convene the Softball and Baseball competitions.

Well done to Emily A, Parneet B, Jayde E, Naz E, Grace F, Gemma J, Pearl J, Rhea M, Olivia M, Amber S and Amelie S. We look forward to the Eastern Region Finals in October.

Boys/Mixed Baseball

The Year 7 Boys Baseball team had a fantastic day out representing Vermont Secondary College at Napier Park last Wednesday.

The Team was full of enthusiasm on the day and supported each other in every inning.

The team was dynamic and students were happy to give all fielding positions a go.

We had two very close games that we lost however the team rallied around each other and came together to win the final game 10-0. This final effort of the day was an outstanding example of fielding and hitting that I hope the team will continue next year at year 8 inter-school Baseball !

Well done team on a great day out and displaying the Vermont Values!

Boys/Mixed Cricket

On Wednesday the 9th of March, the Year 7 boys cricket team travelled to Mulgrave Reserve with one single goal, to prove to all the other schools that we were the best.

We arrived at the venue at 9:30 am and started preparing for the 1st game against GWSC (Glen Waverley Secondary College) that started at 10:30 am.

We won the toss and elected to bowl first. We took a few early wickets and got off to a good start and managed to keep them under 65. Then our batting innings started. Ansh and Maahit opened the batting and we started to gain confidence over the bowlers.

Soon enough we had beaten their score without losing a single wicket.

Winning that game guaranteed a spot in the division finals.

After a short break, we went back to the toss, this time losing it and batting first. We were up against Highvale Secondary College.

This time Ansh and Netra opened the batting. A few early wickets fell but that didn’t stop us we kept on going until we finally ended on 108. After a short interval, we took to the field. We took a few early wickets that got us on track but a few of their middle order batsman stuck in there. We were all annoyed and tired, but that didn’t stop us.

In the final 5 overs we all put our 100% into it and started to get a move on. Not only as the captain of this team, but also a friend to all the players, I am very proud of them and of what they have achieved and most importantly I am extremely happy to announce that Vermont Secondary College are division champions and will be playing in the region championship that will take place in term 4.

Girls Volleyball

Unfortunately, the Year 7 girls were unsuccessful at volleyball this year.

Despite numerous training sessions, the other teams were victorious on the day.

There were some great rallies and everyone’s skills improved as the day went on. Congratulations to the B team for overcoming Mt Waverly B in one match!

The girls really enjoyed their day out and are looking forwards to playing again next year. Thanks to Brigitte C for coaching on the day and Areeba S and Rhea M for helping out with some training sessions.

The team was smaller than usual as the camp had an impact on the numbers of participants but that did not dampen the enthusiasm of the student.

The format was fast 4’s and it lived up to the hype and expectations. All students had the opportunity to play 3 doubles games and 3 singles game for the day.

All students had a great day, even though we did not win enough games to progress through to the next round. Thanks to all Year 7 students had played with good sportsmanship and integrity.
