Message From Our

Principal

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

Today is Ash Wednesday which begins the forty-days of Lent, leading into the beautiful season of Easter. Today we are reminded that we don’t always follow God’s ways and need to ask for His mercy and forgiveness. Year 3/4 gathered with parishioners for Mass while the other children had a special Ash Wednesday Liturgy in their classes. The Ashes remind us to live the way Jesus wants us to. We sometimes think of Lent as a time to “give up something,” to do “some penance” because self-denial is thought to be good for both body and soul.  However, Lent can be time for very positive action too when we can do something for others or for our own growth. Whatever we choose to do for Lent, we should ensure that it leads to a positive change, which in turn has a positive effect on ourselves and the people who we meet daily in our lives. This year’s Project Compassion theme: For All Future Generations! reminds us of our responsibility to ensure that there is joy and hope for our future generations. Yesterday Sacred Heart launched Projection Compassion with Pancake Tuesday and raised $300. Thank you everyone for your generosity.

Learning Conversations will take place during Week 10. This is an opportunity for your child to discuss their learning successes, challenges and goals with their parents and teachers. Please note bookings will open on Tuesday 15th March 9am in PAM.

It was so lovely welcoming families back to Sacred Heart for our Welcome Evening last week and to hear the buzz and excitement of visitors once again. Thank you to everyone who came along and enjoyed the time meeting staff, seeing our lovely learning spaces and sharing what your children have been learning at school. Thank you to the staff for their time and preparation for the evening. Hopefully it won’t be too long before this once again becomes normal for us all!

Well done to all the Foundation learners who have settled so well into school routines and to families for supporting this. It’s amazing to see how they have adjusted and the learning that is already happening. Each Wednesday Foundation teachers have been conducting individual assessments which allows the school to begin to deliver teaching at each point of need and to continually review data and progress.  I am very grateful that families were able to support our teachers in bringing their child in for these important meetings. Next week Foundation begin school fulltime, however if parents feel that their child is having difficulty with this adjustment please discuss your concerns with their teacher.

Our current fundraising focus is for a safety fence surrounding the school boundary. Our first fund raiser will be an Easter raffle. Please read the school news page in the newsletter for further details about our Easter Raffle.

Congratulations to Evie Dalton and William Pulukamu who were presented with the Principal’s Award at our recent assemblies. Evie is warm and friendly, kind and caring to everyone. She greets others with a happy good morning and big smile each day. She has a positive mindset and is trying new things with confidence and enjoying her many successes. Evie is working hard and being her best. Well done Evie.                                            William is very caring and kind and displays our PBIS expectations each and every day. As a Year 6 leader William has attempted new challenges which are not always easy but he gives them a go. He tries hard at everything he does and is always his very best. Well done William.

A reminder that Friday, March 11th is a pupil free day. Staff will be participating in a Spirituality Day with Maria Ford, CES Spirituality Formation and Faith Leader. Monday 14th is a public holiday.

May the Sacred Heart of Jesus continue to watch over our school community and bless us always.
