Year 5/6 Teaching Team

Cath Basile

1. How long have you been with Sacred Heart? I actually commenced teaching at Sacred Heart in 1990.  Wow!!! After quite a few years in class, I then decided to stay at home to be a mum, work on the farm and breed Warmblood horses.  I came back to full-time teaching in 2017 and have been here ever since.
2. What is your favourite thing about your job? There are so many wonderful things about teaching.  To watch a student grow and learn is very satisfying and rewarding.  I enjoy meeting the parents and have the most wonderful children in my class.
3. Any kids/pets? I have two children, Matthew (28yo) and Brianna ( 25yo).  My husband, John, and I, also had two other boys live with us - Nathan (32 yo) and Mitchel (31 yo) who are also very special members of my immediate family. I have lots of pets - there are too many to mention. I love all animals very, very much!
4. What are your hobbies? I enjoy following the horse sports of dressage and showing.  We have a Grand Prix horse who we like to follow.  My pets and my family are my interests.
5. Favourite holiday destination?   I think I’d have to say Apollo Bay.  When I was young, my parents used to take us there each year for a winter holiday.  When I had children, the tradition continued and we still go there, as a family, each year.

Emily Slaughter

1. How long have you been with Sacred Heart? This is my second year of teaching at Sacred Heart.
2. What is your favourite thing about your job? My favourite thing about teaching is enjoying what a beautiful community Sacred Heart is. Being able to teach students that are happy and ready to learn is a privilege. Finally, seeing the growth in students both personally and academically is my most favourite part of teaching.
3. Any kids/pets? 2 dogs; Elvis is a gold Lab with one eye and Billie is a brindle staffy with lots of energy
4. What are your hobbies? My hobbies are bushwalking and woodworking. I love woodworking the most! 
5. Favourite holiday destination? Camping anywhere is my favourite holiday. I do like going bush with the dogs where there is no phone service!

Reilly Young

1. How long have you been with Sacred Heart? I have been at Sacred Heart for just under a year now.
2. What is your favourite thing about your job? I love coming to school and helping students achieve their goals and grow as learners.
3. Any kids/pets? I have two dogs, A border Collie x Husky named Crowley and a mini Labradoodle named Hazel, a cat named Quill as well as a Rabbit named Banjo.
4. What are your hobbies? I love all sports but only play cricket, I support the Richmond tigers. I love reading, playing video games, watching movies and going hiking.
5. Favourite holiday destination?  I love going to Queensland and Climbing Mountains in the Grampians.

Melissa Connors

1. How long have you been with Sacred Heart? This is my fourth year at Sacred Heart as a Learning Support Officer.
2. What is your favourite thing about your job? I love seeing students develop a love for learning and building relationships with their peers.
3. Any kids/pets? I have 3 children, Reagan, Spencer and Samuel. We have a dog 'Steve'.
4. What are your hobbies? I enjoy camping with friends, renovating our house and shopping.
5. Favourite holiday destination? My favourite holiday destination is anywhere on the beach, preferably northern NSW.
