SENIOR'S CAMP

Senior Camp, 2022

DAY ONE - Wednesday 16th Feb

When we arrived at school, everybody was so excited to go to camp. We put our bags in the shelter shed and went to find our friends. In the distance, we heard the bus coming towards the school. Shortly after, teachers were putting our bags in the compartment and we slowly boarded the bus.

After 1 hour and 45 minutes we arrived at Camp Wyuna, and we were greeted by the lovely staff working there. They gave us a tour of Camp Wyuna . We were shown to our cabins, which included two bunk beds, and had lunch.

After lunch we were split into three groups : Squids, sharks and seals so we could do the activities split up and with people we don't work with often. There were three rotations : Boogie boarding, pizza making and canoeing. First up, the squids did pizza making, the sharks did canoeing and the squids went boogie boarding.

For natural pizza making we had to mix flour, yeast, sugar, salt, water and oil, to make the dough. Then we went on a walk up to the Swan Bay lookout. When we came back, we put toppings on our pizza. We ate our pizza and it was delicious. After this, we headed to the park close to the camp and tried to catch water balloons that were in a sling shot. It was fun because they all exploded on us as we tried to catch them. Then we threw the water balloons at the teachers and they threw them back to us.

During our free time, we were able to play various games like Ga-Ga ball, Volleyball, Table Tennis, Basketball and we could also see the two adorable, fluffy chickens.

Each group had a duty where they needed to set the table with cutlery and then clean up, wipe the tables and sweep the floor. On the first night for dinner we had chicken schnitzel, with vegetables, corn, gravy and a baked potato. For dessert, we had apple crumble with a side of ice cream. It was scrumptious!

After dinner, we went on a walk to the beach at night, which was beautiful and we played with various equipment including : Tennis balls, tennis racquets, a volleyball and a cricket set.

DAY TWO - Thursday 16th Feb

In the morning, we all woke up with little sleep and got dressed and the squids got ready for breakfast duty. For breakfast we had pancakes with maple syrup.

Then we split into our groups again squids had boogie boarding seals, canoeing and sharks had nature pizza making. Boogie boarding was excellent. Lots of the Seniors were wearing wetsuits for the first time. Before starting, we learnt about rips, which is a current that pulls you out to sea and other risks like blue-ringed octopuses. When we got to the ocean, it suddenly felt scary, but after catching a few waves, it quickly became one of the funnest things I have ever done. There was a wave that was around three times higher than me, that dunked the whole group.

Then the groups had their final rotation. Our group went to Swan Bay and did some canoeing. It was fun and we saw a Banjo Shark, which has a stingray head but a shark tail, and was completely harmless. It looked quite strange, and I saw it slithering around in the water, and it was quite fast.

For lunch we had wraps, which was yum. After eating, we had a bit of free time outside and then we went on a sightseeing trail and saw stingrays, a pufferfish and tiny black fish!

We had around an hour to take a shower and play some games. Then we went to the rockpools and when we came back we roasted marshmallows by the fire. Soon after we went to bed.

DAY THREE - Friday 18th Feb

In the morning the seals had breakfast duty. We had eggs and bacon on toast. We then headed out on the sand for a dune walk to Queenscliff Fort. We learned about the lighthouses, gold rush, cannons and ships.

When we got back from the dune walk, we had some sausages for lunch and a zooper dooper before heading on the bus. We said our final goodbyes to the wonderful staff. We hopped on the bus and finally arrived back at school. Our parents were all waiting for us and it was great to see them!
