Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden

This week in kitchen the students learnt how to make the classic potato gnocchi.

Once the potatoes were cooked, students peeled and mashed the potatoes combining flour and egg to create a soft dough.  The students rolled and cut the fresh dough creating light and fluffy potato dumplings. We learnt that when the gnocchi floats to the top of boiling water it is cooked and ready to eat!  The gnocchi was tossed in a rich tomato sauce, topped with parmesan. Yum! This weeks kitchen was a big hit with the students.

The garden has been very busy over the last fortnight, with many seedlings being planted, gardens mulched and weeded.  Many thanks to Fiona and Sharon who have worked with students on the compost , chipping pruned branches and placing pavers for a pathway to the compost and chicken yard.

How wonderful to be able to harvest so many beautiful figs from our garden!  Tom and Leo demonstrated super collaboration and communication as they solved the problem of reaching the high growing fruit.

We want to thank all the wonderful parents who have volunteered in the kitchen and garden program already.  Volunteers enable the program to operate and give students opportunities to participate and have valuable experiences.  Thank you. Also, thank you to the wonderful families who have signed up to care for the chickens.  We are expecting some new arrivals in Chookingham Palace on Friday this week!
