Dear Families,

Last Wednesday evening Bishop Comensoli was installed as the ninth Archbishop of Melbourne. In his homily, Archbishop Comensoli spoke of the need for the Church to be a Church of Action.... Our common task is a Missionary one. Today we celebrate the Feast of our own Australian Saint, St Mary MacKillop, who challenges and inspires us with her words " Never see a need without doing something about it".

Well done to our Mini Vinnies and all who conducted a brilliant Fair For Fairness day last Friday - a great fun filled day which raised over $2000 for charity. The Mini Vinnies and Mrs Heldt are investigating which charities to donate to and we will let you know next week.

Grandparents Day

We are all looking forward to next MONDAY 13th August where we invite our Grandparents or significant other to our school!! We will gather together in the Church at 10am. We ask grandparents to meet us there.

After our short Liturgy, grandparents are invited to visit their grandchildren’s classes. At 11:10am whilst students are going out to recess, grandparents are to assemble in the Performing Arts area

for a cup of tea and a biscuit.

Thank you to our Sizzle Wizzle Volunteers

Our Sizzle Wizzle held on Monday was a great success and on behalf of the community I thank our very generous volunteers who under the direction of Miranda Caciolo certainly bought a smile to our students.... and hopefully made it for our parents who didn't have to make lunches.

Our parent volunteers were Julia Aye, Rupam Bhangu, Sitar Salee, Rod Aguilera, Nga Nicholas, Mary Smith, Van Nguyen, Ky Tang, Clare Monea and Sociek Avakian. THANK YOU!

School Surveys...... We value your feedback!

The Parent Opinion Survey is an annual survey offered by the Catholic Education Office. All Catholic Schools are invited to participate. The Survey is anonymous and is designed in gaining parents perceptions of the school's strengths and areas for focus. It can be completed online or in hard copy. Hard copies can be returned to the school office. as soon as possible.

The survey is open from the 6th August to the 24th August

We will send home a survey to a randomly selected number of our families THIS WEEK. If you receive a survey, we ask that you complete the survey but if you do not want to do so, please return to the school office as soon as possible enabling us to distribute to another family.

All staff complete a similar survey and students from Year 3 -6 complete a survey. The school will receive the survey results later in the year and it serves to inform and direct future school planning and improvement strategies.

School Closure days - Pupil Free

As you would be aware the school will be closed for students on MONDAY SEPTEMBER 10th 2018.

The staff will be undertaking a Professional Learning Day on best principles and practices around Behaviour Management including Restorative Practices. You will have all received information regarding Camp Australia Out of Hours School Care on September 10th and we have provided it again for you.

Please note the school will also be closed for students on FETE EVE - Friday 26 October and Cup Eve Monday 5th November. We will let you know in due course if there will be any further School Closure Days additional to those outlined here.

Australian School of Performing Arts

The Australian Girls’ Choir is running tryouts again at our school this year. At the AGC they believe that every child can learn to sing, and that the benefits of singing go far beyond the stage. Parents of choristers often comment on the amazing impact their classes have on their daughters’ confidence, teamwork and presentation skills.

The workshop will take place at St John Vianneys on Monday August 20 @ 2.30.

Information notices went home yesterday about the choir and they have a permission slip attached to them. You are asked to return the permission slips to the school if you are interested in having your daughter participate. This way, the workshop is only run with the girls who are genuinely interested, and disruption to classes is minimised. On the day, interested girls will participate in a workshop with one of their experienced tutors, involving simple rhythm, pitch and movement activities and games. Following the workshop, an encouraging personalised written report to the parents of each girl who participated will be sent home.
