Student Support

Renovations and family home for Christmas has prompted some serious decluttering in our house. In a dusty old box of resources from early teaching years, a slip of aged paper floated from a tattered folder. Reaching down to pick it up with the intent to bin it with other obsolete materials, the words, "from a child" caught my eye. The sentiments still hold true.

Some Helpful Memos

from a child

  • Giving me everything I ask for, will spoil me.
  • Setting limits makes me feel more secure so don't be afraid to be firm but kind with me.
  • You know and love me so help me develop positive habits.
  • When you over-emphasise my mistakes, I think they are me and I am bad.
  • When I am learning, it will sometimes be difficult - allow me to face the consequences of my actions.
  • Being honest isn't easy and sometimes I am frightened into being dishonest.
  • I can cope with limits when you are consistent and fair. It's much harder when I'm not sure of your reaction.
  • When I ask questions, I really appreciate an honest direct answer.
  • Sometimes I'm afraid and my fears may seem silly - please try to understand because your assurances are important.
  • Always remember - just as nothing succeeds like success                                                                                       - being able to love comes from being loved.
