The Class of 2020
Message to Year 12 Students from our Principal, Mrs Crisara OAM
"Parents you have been incredible in this year of challenging times. The way you have supported your children, these young people, and the way you have supported the staff and the College. We all want to say thank you!
To the students of the class of 2020, I would like to impress on you the power of story. You have an interesting story to share of your 2020 year but more importantly you have an interesting story, full stop. Your stories are different, there will be interesting chapters, exciting chapters, chapters showing some challenges and chapters showing significant learnings about yourself.
This year I have read a number of stories at assemblies all by the author, Kobi Yamada:
At the beginning of the year it was; "What do you do with an idea?" Ideas become big things, brave things and good things - artwork, inventions, cures – that all these things you see around you were once an idea. I challenged you to come up with some ideas in order to see the potential that is in each of you.
At the beginning of Term 2, the book was, "What do you do with a problem?" It explained that problems challenge us and shape us and help us to discover how brave and capable you can be. I think we all found that out about ourselves this year.
In Term 3, the book was, "What do you do with a chance?" It explained how chances can become exciting opportunities, new friendships and daring discoveries and how these can lead to unforgettable experiences and open doors to a whole new world. Chances help you see who you are and where you want to go.
I would like to finish by reading one other book that fits with the series and it is called "Maybe". It is a story about the endless potential in all of you.
So maybe you can and will write that next interesting chapter to share with friends, families and your teachers.
2020 may be a year you want to forget but you are taking with you some experiences no others will be able to have. You can take away qualities such as grit, determination, agility, flexibility, strength of character and maturity. These will stand you in good stead to conquer whatever lies ahead for you. You have managed the challenges with distinction and as leaders of tomorrow, as you take the next step we are all behind you.
Maybe, just maybe, you will exceed your wildest dreams.
May you move forward with the blessings from everyone in our Aitken School Community."
