Around the Classrooms

  Pictured Thomas Jones with Gerry!

My year 7 class is studying Ecology, so I bought in my blue tongue lizard, Gerry, for the students to look at. We talked about food webs, and how different organisms have different roles in an ecosystem. I also took Gerry to the front office and gave our admin staff a bit of a scare, as Gerry looks a bit like a snake when she is curled up on my arm! Callum French

Mrs Cameron’s Year 8 Geography class Mountains to Megacities have been researching volcanoes around the world.

Abby Hill created this great model of her chosen volcano and the ingredients for a mini explosion for her project, which was exciting!

Abby is pictured holding her model and her research project.

Australian Mathematics Competition

During Term 3 we had eight students compete in the Australian Mathematics Competition in the Junior and Intermediate Divisions.  This year the competition was held online for the first time with all students adapting comfortably to the change of delivery.  For just over an hour, each student applied their breadth of mathematical knowledge and reasoning skills as they wrestled with thirty challenging questions.

I would like to thank Matthew Hanns, Charli Waser, Charleigh Hack, Stephanie Ludlow, Lucy Ludlow, Paige Selva, Mahdi Ghorbani and Rowan Farren for having the courage to tackle such a tough competition and for representing the school with such distinction.  I would like to further congratulate Matthew Hanns, Mahdi Ghorbani and Charleigh Hack for achieving the highest scores for our school.     Rob Steer
