A Word from the Principal

Fiona Nolan

Well it would seem Term 4 is well underway already. Our Years 3-6 students have had a successful Athletics Carnival, our Year 8 students have had some Focus Days and all our students have returned to learning with a renewed focus and energy. Our Year 10 students are on their homeward journey and are beginning to see the end in sight. This brings both excitement and anxiety. It seems that the reality that Term 4 will fly has given students a desire to do well and they have engaged in learning with excitement.

It is also the time that our Year 9 students contemplate stepping into College leadership roles and ask themselves what they can do for our community. What is it that makes them a Mount Carmel student, what shapes our community and how will they lead. It will be their role to inspire students to be strong in faith, selfless and community minded. To focus on others and to make a difference to our community.

Our end of year functions will need to look different this year and staff will be communicating this on a regular basis.

Parent Engagement

Mid last month, Federal Education Minister, the Honorable Dan Tehan, launched the recently developed Parent Engagement Case Studies. These case studies have been added to the Catholic School Parents Australia (CSPA) Gearing Up for Parent Engagement website. The Case Studies, consisting of twenty-five videos and eighteen vignettes, have been compiled from interviews in Government, Independent and Catholic schools and are aimed at educating parents to allow for better parent engagement in schooling.

In his launch, Minister Tehan reiterated how the government

"is committed to improving parent engagement in schools through initiatives such as these, which provide practical ways for parents, carers and school leaders to support each other to achieve better learning outcomes.”

Minister Tehan encouraged parents, teachers and school leaders, from all sectors to visit the website and see how these case studies bring CSPA's research and resources to life.

Mount Carmel College will also seek parent and student feedback shortly to help plan for 2021. We appreciate that this is a busy time for families but would really welcome your feedback on what the College can improve on.

Quote of the Week:

Take a deep breath. Get present in the moment and ask yourself what is important this very second.
