Teaching and Learning

Room 3

Patterning

In Room 3 we have been enjoying sharing stories. We love reading time and reading together. In Daily 5 time we have been learning to read with a partner. We have been learning how to sit with our partner and to take turns reading (sharing our stories) while our partner listens and asks questions at the end of the reading. Although we are learning to recognise and read words we can still “read” a book by looking at the pictures and telling our own stories.

こんにちは,

Konnichiwa

Did you know that Japanese Club is on every Friday at lunch time? It is always a busy space with lots of students visiting and having fun! There are many different activities on offer for the students to try and there is always something to see and do. Sushi shops, origami, kendama, Japanese iPad apps and traditional toys are just some of the most popular!

Ask your child if they have been to a session yet?

Science

In Science, students across the school have been working hard to develop their concepts of gravity, push/pull, air resistance, magnetic forces and electrical circuits.

Rooms 1, 2, 3 and 6 have learnt about bouncing and sliding where they used a ramp and balls to investigate these actions.

Rooms 4, 5, 8 and 15 have learnt about push/pull actions and how Isaac Newton discovered gravity and the forces associated with it.

Rooms 7, 9 and 10 have been focusing on air resistance and making a parachute that can move safely to the ground.

Rooms 11, 12 and 14 have been investigating electrical circuits and discovering how to create one as well as experimenting on how to include a switch in a circuit.

Sport News

It’s been a busy few weeks for all of us with plenty to report back on. Our house captains have been running lunch time games for students from R-3 on Mondays at lunch time and the students are enjoying running those games as much as the students who participate in them are! Keep up the excellent work, House Captains.

Two weeks ago, the guys and girls from Rugby SA delivered an excellent clinic to students in years 4, 5, 6, and 7. Students and staff thoroughly enjoyed the day and we thank Rugby SA for taking the time out to show our students the ropes.

This Wednesday, selected students will swim against other schools at Immanuel College to compete for a spot in the Airport SAPSASA swim team. Congratulations to Allegra Mazel, Lara Scutchings, Marissa McKenzie, Neve Murphy, Ej Ryles, Tyson Dobie, Brayden McKenzie, Hamish and Couper Bray, Zane and Jake Rooney, Kohta Beerworth and Mike Williams. Go well.

Thursday sees West Beach Primary School students travel down to Glenelg Lacrosse Club to compete against surrounding schools in a modified game of Lacrosse. West Beach is represented in the years 4/5 and 6/7 categories. I know that you’ll play hard, fair and safe in true West Beach fashion.

Finally, this week has seen coaches from Badminton SA come and deliver clinics at WBPS. Thanks to Callum Dunk who has taken time out of his busy schedule to help facilitate this. Students will come home this week with a flyer that details how they can get involved with an after school program at Lockleys.

I wasn’t lying when I said we’ve been busy.
