Staff Profile

Donovan Lawrence

I hereby introduce myself as Donovan Lawrence; teacher of Biology, Science & Mathematics. I am also the Year 7 Coordinator at Scoresby Secondary College in 2019.

I arrived at Scoresby in Term 2, 2019, having had 10 years teaching experience, predominantly at two schools in Melbourne.  I spent my first 3 years of teaching at a senior international school – Taylors College – where I taught students from China, Hong Kong, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, Russia, and even Kenya.  I then taught a further 6 years at Cranbourne East Secondary College in the South-Eastern suburbs of Melbourne, which had an interesting multicultural student cohort. This school had grown from about 500 students to approximately 1300 students, when I left for the enthusiasm of change and growth at Scoresby Secondary College.

My journey towards a career in teaching started straight out of secondary school, studying Teaching at Deakin University.  At the same time, I began working at Hoyts Cinemas, where I would continue to work for the next 13 years, as an usher, projectionist, and manager, whilst I changed University courses, dabbled in amateur sporting pursuits, and played guitar in a band for many years. The band that I was in – Pitching Woo – even had our debut E.P. for sale in JB-HIFI at one point.

Eventually, with 12 years experience as a cinema projectionist – and 5 of those years also as a Manager at Hoyts – my passion for teaching had taken hold again, as I completed a Biological Science degree and a Post-Graduate Diploma of Education at La Trobe.

I am a happily married, proud Dad with two creative and entertaining girls, aged 4 and 8.

I still manage to play basketball a few times a week, play guitar when time and energy permit, and I also try to squeeze in my new hobby of learning to play the drums.

I look forward to continue balancing family life with the multifaceted world of teaching, specifically by contributing to the continued rejuvenation and success of Scoresby Secondary College.
