Junior School Report

Well we certainly are deep into the final weeks of the school year, but that doesn’t mean we are slowing down here in the Junior School. With plenty of different events and activities planned between now and December 20, things at Scoresby Secondary College will definitely be continuing at a very rapid pace and we are sure to be left with much to report on come the end of 2019.

In terms of 2020 and beyond, we have begun with visits from the local primary schools’ grade 5 and 6 students. The grade 5 students have been visiting on a number of occasions, in order to get more of a feel for what secondary school might entail for them in the near future. This week, the grade 6 students had the opportunity to visit the college and take part in some pre-testing for 2020, in which they will begin their secondary school adventure with us here at Scoresby Secondary.

Overall the experiences of all primary students have been successful, with many struggling to contain their excitement for the years ahead. We can’t wait for the fun and games to begin with you all and hope that the rest of the year brings you luck and joy at your current primary settings.

Moving ahead with the rest of the Junior cohort, we are pleased to announce that as part of the annual end of year program, we have planned a range of interactive and fun filled activities, beginning in the second last week of the term on Wednesday the 11th of December. The program will include activities such as Jumpdeck, Movies @ Knox City, a range of classroom activities run by various members of staff and a visit to Gumbuya Park. A form detailing more information about the end of year program will be handed out shortly, and permission and payment should be made to the general office before the 25th of November to ensure students are able to participate in the fun.

Back to the matter of academics, we strongly urge families to be regularly checking with students regarding schoolwork and assessment tasks for all subjects, as whilst we are in term 4, our expectations do not change, and as such it is important we remain focused on our students schooling. Please note that the year 7 cohort will be visiting KIOC one last time this term for a Science excursion. The forms have been handed out and again it is important that payment is made and that they are brought back to school as soon as possible. Following this, the year 9 cohort have just completed an English exam and also have a Maths exam fast approaching. Please also note that the final day of Respectful Relationships Program is to be held on the Friday 22nd November and the activities will include Hip Hop dancing and Trivia.

Year 9 & 10 Day of STEM at RMIT

Year 9 and 10 students took the opportunity to attend a day of STEM at RMIT in Melbourne recently. The day was designed for students who may not be currently considering attending university after they leave secondary school, as well as students with a keen interest in continuing their studies of STEM right through their tertiary education. Highlights of the day included rocketry in the space lab, herd immunity mathematics where the stakes were high and coding a game.
