Student Leadership

Logo Design
As the community is aware, the school is currently engaging in a process of updating our school logo and in time website and other promotional material. Students R-7 have been invited to engage in the process with many interesting ideas being shared via class meetings and SRC meetings. many students have also design their own examples of possible logo designs. Three year 6/7 students (Renee H, Alice G and Shyra C) who created wonderful designs, recently participated in a special workshop held at the city studios of professional design company Argon Designs. Staff from the company volunteered their services to lead a series of workshops with the students. These workshops enabled the girls to learn from, and work with, the experts in the field. The students examined topics such as 'what makes an effective logo design', the 'importance of keeping design simple' and 'what elements could represent West Beach PS'. The students found these activities and conversations very engaging. Following these conversations the students were then invited to collaboratively 'create' two possible design options and describe the elements which we consider most important to West Beach Primary School. Argon Designs will now 'workshop and simplify' these two design options. Once these two designs are finalised they will be shared with the broader school community and a community vote conducted. I look forward to sharing the student's work with the community.

This work is a clear example of our efforts to provide students at West Beach Primary School with a wider range of opportunities to develop and demonstrate their leadership skills.
Immanuel College Student Service
West Beach Primary School recently played host to four year 10 students from Immanuel College as part of the college's 'Service Learning Programme'. During the two day placement these students supported learning in classrooms throughout the school. This also provided the opportunity for these more senior students to set an example and model leadership skills to our aspiring leaders R-7. We thank these students (Madison C, Jessie M, Phoebe W and Demi W) for their service to our students.

PALS
Students from years 4-7 have established the PALS (Play at Lunchtimes) Programme again this year. This programme enables students in the middle and upper primary year levels to plan, organise and conduct lunchtime activities for students in the junior primary year levels. The older students thoroughily enjoy the opportunity to 'teach' the younger students some great games but at the same time they also learn some important skills in preparation, organisation and public speaking. The younger students also benefit from making friendships with older students throughout the school.
