Rock 'n' Roll Night

On the 23rd May 2015, the West Beach Primary School will be holding a Rock n Roll night in the School Hall as a fundraiser.

We are asking families for their support to ensure the Rock n Roll night is a success. We want to raise money to upgrade the school and provide resources for our children.

There will be a live band ‘Rock n Roll Radio Hits’ and the hall will be decorated with streamers and balloons. We will be running a licensed bar and providing nibbles. If you can help us out with any donations it would be greatly appreciated. We are looking for contributions of streamers, balloons, soft drink and nibbles (chips, dips, crackers, cheese, lollies, popcorn etc.).

If you have a friend, family member or a contact that could help us out with discounted beer or wine we would greatly appreciate your support.  We will also be holding auctions, having a lucky door prize and prize for the best dressed on the night so would appreciate anything that we can put towards prizes for this.

If you can help in any way please contact West Beach Fundraising Committee:

Harmony Day

Thank you to all of the students and families who participated in Harmony Day activities last week. Students created a short film in recognition of the special day.

Call for Volunteer/s

We are seeking the services of a keen gardener or two who would like to volunteer their services on a regular basis (weekly, fortnightly etc) to help with general gardening around the school. This may be a great opportunity for perhaps a retired or semi retired grandparent or two who enjoy gardening and activities such as weeding, prunning, and general gardening. If you, or somebody you know, is interested please contact Mat Charleston at the front office on Ph:83567944 to discuss this opportunity.

NAPLaN Testing

The National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) is an annual national assessment for all students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9. All students in these year levels are expected to participate in tests in reading, writing, language conventions (spelling, grammar and punctuation) and numeracy.

NAPLAN tests are one aspect of a school’s assessment and reporting process; they do not replace the extensive ongoing assessments made by teachers about each student’s performance.

A NAPLaN report will then be distributed later in the year. The same report format is used for every student in Australia.

A formal exemption may be granted for a student with significant intellectual disability and/or significant coexisting conditions, or for a student who has recently arrived in Australia and has a non-English speaking background.

A parent brochure attached below provides further information.

If you would like additional information on special provisions or the process required to gain a formal exemption please speak with Mat Charleston or Katrina Sexton as soon as possible.

Working Bee - Thank You

Thank you to the parents, caregivers and students who very generously gave up their Sunday morning on March 29th to participate in our recent Working Bee which was organised by our Sports & Assets Committee. These volunteers worked incredibly hard to lay mulch, weed garden beds and generally tidy up the school grounds. This is a wonderful demonstration of our school values and is very much appreciated by all staff and students.

Casual Dress Day

Just a reminder that the last Friday of term, April 10th, is a 'Casual Dress Day' with all children encouraged to make a gold coin donation as a  fundraiser for the school SRC. As usual the last day of term will also be an early finish at 2:20pm.

Nut Free School

This is an important reminder to all parents that West Beach Primary School is a 'Nut Free School. It is very important that all families are extremely careful to not send children to school with any food that may contain any traces of nuts as we have numerous children who may suffer potentially fatal allergic reactions to nuts.

If you have any questions in relation to this please feel free to speak with Katrina Sexton or Mat Charleston.

Lost Property

We currently have a huge amount of lost property in the lost property box which is located under the stairwell outside room one. Please take the time to have a good look through the lost property box if you have lost any items of clothing during the term.

Christian Options Programme

On Tuesday March 31st students R-7 participated in a Christian Options Programme in the school hall. The students enjoyed a 30 minute session which focussed on the theme of Easter.

Canteen Volunteers Needed

Any parents who are interested in volunteering in the canteen are encouraged to contact Sam Cook on 040202860650 to  register their details. Obviously the canteen is a service which the vast majority of students appreciate but one which relies heavily on kind parent volunteers.
