From the Principal

Term 1, 2015

Term 1 has been very busy with many quality, enjoyable and engaging learning opportunities being provided for all of our students. Teachers have worked collaboratively to implement Inquiry based learning approaches to deliver the history curriculum and students have especially enjoyed learning in the bright new library space and using the new laptops. Our R/1 classes are continuing to develop and apply their learning through investigative play experiences. This approach is providing excellent opportunities for students to develop powerful dispositions for learning.

I would also like to take this opportunity to thank the many parents that have attended Parent/teacher interviews over the last 2 weeks. These conversations have been moved to earlier in the year so that parents are informed sooner of their child’s learning goals. The partnership that we have with parents enhances the learning experiences and outcomes for children and enables teachers to better meet their needs and aspirations. Success for our children hinges on the respectful and positive relationships that we have with our parents and the wider community.

Next term, Rosemary Griffin will take Long Service Leave for the term and Carrol Tsioumanis will be on Long Service Leave for the first 2 weeks of the term. I am currently working with DECD staffing to appoint teachers to these classes and will confirm this information with parents as soon as I have been notified.

I would like take this opportunity to thank the students that were elected by their peers to represent them on Student Representative Council (SRC) this semester. Their contribution to decision-making and school improvement has been invaluable. At our last meeting SRC students volunteered to attend Governing Council sub-committee meetings during Term 2 and 3. We also discussed the plan to review the canteen menu and students will seek ideas about healthy alternatives.

Thankyou to parents, staff and students who volunteered their time to help  at the Working Bee last Sunday. Together we weeded and mulched garden beds, topped up the sand in the sandpit, swept and watered.

Congratulations to Leonie Orum, our Pastoral Care Worker who recently passed her 12 month review. The feedback gathered from staff, students and parents was extremely positive and highlighted the valuable support that Leonie provides to all members of our community. Leonie works in the school as our Pastoral Care Worker on Wednesdays and Thursdays.

Thank you also to parents that have volunteered their time to support with many activities this term. Your help has been valued and very much appreciated by staff and students. Many activities would not happen without your wonderful support.

I wish you all a happy and safe Easter and school holiday break.
