$20 Boss Program

The Year 9 Justice, Money and Markets class and the two Year 10 Commerce Extension classes are involved this year in the $20 Boss program run by the National Australia Bank. To encourage entrepreneurship in young people and to give students the experience of creating and operating their own businesses, the NAB gives each student from our three classes $20 which is used as capital to start up their business. At the end of the business operation period, if the businesses have made sufficient money, they repay the $20 to NAB plus a $1 donation for charity. Any profits the businesses make are donated to a charity of the students’ choice.

Last year fourteen students participated running six businesses and overall they made profits of over $700 with the most successful business making almost $300 that they donated to the Lost Dogs Home. This year we have 56 students participating, with around 15 businesses operating.

Week 7 will be our business operation week with students and teachers able to buy hot chocolate, donuts and cupcakes. There will also be a series of events being run such as a paper plane competition, a chocolate drop, a raffle and the ability to test your skills against other students in a 3-point basketball competition, a downball tournament and the longest tennis hit. A variety of prizes will be offered including canteen vouchers and lollies.

The Small Business week will culminate in a Primary Market Day when all 15 businesses will set up in the primary school for all students to participate. Please note students will still need to bring their own lunch, snacks will be available for purchase.

Please support our students who have working incredibly hard, creating and planning their businesses by coming along and purchasing goods and participating in a variety of events.

NAPLAN School Readiness Test

Next week students in Years 3, 5, 7 & 9 will complete a Trial NAPLAN School Readiness Test.

Please note these tests are only to try out the system and get us familiar with how it works. Results are not published as these are  'dummy' tests only,  click here for more information.

Year 3 students will do a single test (the 'omnibus' test) which is a combination of reading, language conventions & numeracy. All other year levels will do TWO tests - the omnibus and a writing task. The writing task will be done on the computer as a typed (not handwritten) task.

Parking Reminder

In the interest of student and community safety, please observe the parking restrictions in and around the school grounds.
