News From The Principal - Mike Tate

Dear Families,

Welcome back to the final term of the year. Being only 9 weeks, it is going to go very quickly but promises to be an exciting and busy time for all.

Class Placements for 2016

This process began earlier in the week. Thank you to those families that took the time to put in writing any requests.

While requests will be taken into consideration when planning, it is not always possible to meet all of these.

Thank you for your on-going support.

This year, where teachers are known, children will be given their Room and class teacher for 2016 prior to the holidays.

School Drop-off  Zone

A reminder that the area in front of the school on Fletcher Road is a drop off zone only. This is a 2 minute area and adults should not leave the vehicle. Council are policing this zone regularly. It is important that we all adhere to these rules for the safety and benefit of all families. Thank you for your cooperation.

Retirement

It is getting to that time of the year when we learn about staffing and any changes that may occur prior to the following year.

I have recently been informed that Valerie Bartley will be retiring at the end of the year. Valerie has been teaching for the past 38 years!! Many of you would have been taught by her or know of someone who was. Over the years, she has taught at Burton, The Pines and of course Largs Bay.

As a staff, we will be celebrating Valerie’s career at the end of the term and I am sure her class will be doing something special. We will also be acknowledging Valerie at our End of Year Event.

Walkathon

A reminder that next Friday is our major fundraiser for the year – the walkathon. The children have been organising sponsorship over the past few weeks and we are once again looking forward to a successful day. We encourage parents and families to come along and support the children on the day.

NAPLAN Results

Over the past few weeks, leadership have started to analyse the NAPLAN data in relation to our Year 3, 5 & 7 students.

The following is a very brief summary of percentages of students at Largs Bay who met the National Minimum Standard in Reading, Writing, Spelling & Numeracy.

External Review - Meeting with Parents

As you are aware, next week our school will be involved in a Review. The purpose of the review is to support schools to raise student achievement and sustain high performance.

As a part of the process, the Review Team would like to interview a group of parents to gain an insight into the school from this perspective.

This will be taking place next Tuesday 27th October at 9:00am at school. Tea, coffee and biscuits will be provided.

If you are interested in taking part, could you please let me know via email (mike.tate871@schools.sa.edu.au) by next Monday at the latest. We need to keep the group to a manageable number and so we will monitor how many parents wish to be involved.
