Student Leadership News

Welcome back to term 3 everyone! We hope everyone’s had a restful break and are prepared for yet another term (perhaps the busiest one yet!)
As we mentioned in our last newsletter article, this time of year is what we like to refer to as the mid year ‘slump’, in fact we consider the whole season of winter as a slump. As the temperature decreases, so does our chance of getting out of our nice, warm beds and coming to school with the same enthusiasm that we possessed at the start of the year.
Not to worry, there’s only 7 more weeks of term to go until next holidays!
At the end of term 2 the MFG leadership team organised a “Hot chocolate 4 Water” day. The aim was to raise money for one of our fellow community captains, Rachel Kaiser, as she walked over 70km from Maude to Ballarat to raise money and awareness for those less fortunate who must walk very long distances in order to access drinkable water. As a result of our very successful fundraiser, nearly $200 was raised and many cold students were left quite satisfied with a steaming hot chocolate! We hope to continue running a hot chocolate stand through winter, alongside the Tuesday toast days.
MFG has also recently held it’s own NAIDOC week, which is a celebration of Indigenous culture, history and achievements. A school assembly was held to discuss “What is NAIDOC?” and “Why is NAIDOC week important?”. MFG is proud to recognise the Indigenous students that pass through the school and continue to foster the idea of inclusivity within the MFG community.
