F1 Challenge
Our boys came second overall at the World Titles in the USA which is outstanding. The difference in score between 1st and 2nd was 15 points, out of a maximum of 900, so close to being first. The Greek team were first. Our boys have being working in this programme for some 3 years plus with Rebecca Seel and Mark Micallef. The result is amazing.
Oscar McMaster
Congratulations to Oscar McMaster who plays for one of only 2 Victorian Gaelic football teams and over the Term 3 holidays, he and his team played in a national tournament, the GFHA Games, held in Brisbane.
The team won the tournament and as a bonus, Oscar was picked for an All-Australian team to play in future tournaments. A wonderful achievement!
Konrad Ciupek
Konrad Ciupek (Victoria Golf Club) and Alizza Hetherington (Royal Melbourne Golf Club) have won the 2016 Victorian Boys and Girls Championships, played at Yarra Yarra Golf Club.
Heading into the last 18 holes, the contest was open with a number of players in contention to take out the titles.
Ciupek, 17, entered the final round in fourth place, three shots back of the leading pair of Thomas Heaton and Isaac Noh. Heaton and Noh both suffered their worst rounds of the tournament, shooting 5-over and 9-over respectively, opening the door to the rest of the field.
Ciupek seized the day with a sizzling 2-under round including four birdies, one of which was on the eighteenth hole to seal the victory and provide vindication for Ciupek who lost the Victorian Junior Masters in a play-off earlier this year.
Sailing Team
In March this year Harrison Sly has had to train up and adapt to a new crew by the name of Brandon Demura (who is a Mentone Grammar student).
The boys have been training incredibly hard and are now seeing the rewards of such a gruesome training schedule. Harrison and his crew have achieved some great results locally and interstate which l have listed below:
1st Sail Mordi Regatta, Mordialloc
1st Springsail Regatta, Geelong
3rd NSW Youths Regatta, Georges River NSW (States represented NSW, VIC, QLD and TAS)
1st Sail Sandy, Sandringham
Harrison finished with a podium finish for NSW Youths, it was an outstanding result achieved by Harrison and his crew. When put into perspective the first place getters are the current 29er World Champions. The second place getters are girls who have been training together for a few years now and who are about to represent Australia at the up-coming Youth Worlds. Harrison and his crew have done incredibly well finishing a credible 3rd being the only Victorians to achieve a podium finish out of all other Victorian’s who also attended the NSW Youths.
Harrison and his crew are current members of the Victorian Sailing Team and have a bright future together.
In addition to Harrison’s personal sailing, he has been a keen contributor to the success of the St Bede’s Sailing Team. The St Bede’s Sailing Team were crowned winners of the Victorian Schools Teams Racing Championships held earlier this year. They then travelled to Goolwa in South Australia to compete at the National Schools Teams Racing Championships where they finished 11th from a field of 24 schools, being the top Victorian school followed by St Leonards who finished in 19th position.
We are looking forward to Harrison competing in the up-coming ISAF World Cup this December at St Kilda, followed by the Nationals and Youths in South Australia January 2017.
Stem Video Game students
On the back of the great successes of the F1 challenge, a team of our Year 11 students have won the Australian STEM video game challenge with their game ‘Spectrum'. This is a national competition where students are challenged with designing and building a video game with a STEM theme.
The students are Thomas Hubeek, Lachlan Williamson, Jacob Djaelani and Nathan Lambert.
As winners they will receive a 3 Day pass to PAX Australia – where they will be presented with a new HP laptop at the awards ceremony. Their game will also be showcased and made available to play on the STEM video game website.
