KJ

Some of KJ’s highlights are; sport, playing with friends, winning tokens and writing stories. They need to think flexibly when they are coming up with stories. They also have to persist when they are doing maths. Some surprises that have come their way are, making new friends and getting awards. Some of their greatest learning is learning their numbers and literacy groups. So far it seems like it’s been a great term in KJ!

KM

“Wow, the term has flown by”- Zahli and Archer. A highlight of KM this term is science,  for science is a great way to experiment and make learning fun! Some other subjects that KM enjoy are sport, playing with friends at recess and lunch and art. One thing that has surprised KM this term is that it’s ALREADY WEEK 7! To help them in their learning, KM uses habits of mind because it helps them to stay on track. Two habits of mind that they particularly use are thinking flexibly and persisting, not to mention all the other habits of mind that they use. To say the least, week 7 has been a wonderful week so far.

Year 1

1J

Highlights of Term 4. Year 1 has been persistent in not giving up. By doing this Maisie and Elizabeth feel their greatest learning achievement was handwriting and religion. In handwriting, they feel that they have become neater thanks to their dot to dot book. Year 1 has also been focusing on bumping up their vocabulary so they have become better writers in general. In religion, Year 1 has learnt so much more about Jesus’ life and love, filling their curious minds. But a surprise to them and the whole class was learning about persuasive texts. They were excited about this and knew when struggling with this new topic their teacher would be there supporting them and they could look at the bump it up wall.

1M

As we come to the end of Term 4,  1M has reflected on the year they have had. The group sat back and looked at all of the highlights from the year. Some of their highlights would have to be the sea monkeys that they watched very closely grow and change. Another highlight they had was just coming to school every day to see and play with their friends. They enjoyed this because their friends always put a smile on their faces no matter what. A success they have had is with their reading. They are so glad to see how their reading has progressed so much. A habit of mind they have had to use is striving for accuracy to keep on going even when they have found themselves stuck in the learning pit. Overall 1M has had an amazing term of learning and is excited for the rest of this year and what next year might hold.

Year 2

2M

In Year 2M highlights of Term 4 were the Book Week Parade, Sport (AFL), Art (Making sculptures out of clay), Mathematics (patterns), Poetry, Narratives (they published books) and going to the park for sport. H.O.M that were used were Finding Humour and Persisting. A huge surprise in 2M was when an enormous spider appeared and the air conditioner leaked. An achievement Xavier got was getting a Mathematics award and an achievement Celie got was getting the English I.C.A.S Award. 2M have had a great Term 4 so far.

2J

A highlight that Year 2J had this year was Science. They were learning about floating and sinking objects and they really enjoyed it. In Sport, Year 2J enjoyed basketball and other basketball skills games. The Habit of Mind that Year 2J used was striving for accuracy to get the basketball into the hoop when they were playing the game. Year 2J also enjoyed English because they were learning about Procedure texts. It was fun because it was their first time learning about it.

Year 3

3J

It’s the last term of the year! Year 3J has been learning a lot through literacy and numeracy, by playing math games and racing to sort their ‘Words Their Way’. They are definitely making the most of their last term of Year 3! Playing math games has been a highlight of Term 4 because they had just started to play them as a brain break in class. These games are not too hard to play and understand, so 3J can get straight into them without a recap of the game. A Habit of Mind used when doing this task is persisting to stay quiet. This is because, with all the excitement in the room, volume needs to be controlled. Another highlight of Term 4 has been ‘Words Their Way’, a word where they are given a list of words each week. They cut new sorts, look at definitions and race to sort words into categories. This is a highlight because “... it is fun when timing yourself while sorting the words”. A Habit of Mind used in this subject is striving for accuracy so students can try their best to sort words into the right category. Term 4 has definitely been full of fun learning in 3J!

3M

Term 4 has been an interesting and exciting term for everyone in Yr 3M. From awesome AFL lessons to Epic Math Battles. Yr 3M has had an amazing term so far and can't wait to tell the school about it.

Yr 3M has enjoyed playing AFL during Sport, especially learning about the drop kicks and handballs. They have enjoyed the analogies the coach uses to engage them, such as “The ball is an ice cream cone which requires it to be held from the bottom”. Milla and Roxy have found these analogies hilarious. Shooting accurately has proven to be a difficult challenge for Yr 3M. However, they persisted through it by applying the Habit of Mind finding humour. When somebody makes an error they always find the funny side of things.

In a different part of learning, Yr 3M has been finding similar features that two people might share. Milla and Roxy have found a newfound interest… drumroll, please….MATH RAPS!!! To have the most effective outcome they used the Habit of Mind ’communicating with clarity and precision’.

Overall Term 4 has been an exciting time for Yr 3M. They can't wait for what the rest of the year holds.

Year 4

Year 4 are enjoying their Term 4 experiences. They have enjoyed doing their “Little Miss and Mr Men” books and learning about the First Fleet during History. They had lots of fun learning about the life cycle of a butterfly and applying that to dance moves. The habits of minds they used were being persistent in dance to get the moves right and striving for accuracy in their Little Miss and Mr Men books. Overall their Term 4 experiences have been great but they know there is more to come in Year 5.

Year 5

5J

Isla’s highlights were leadership day because they learnt how to be a true leader and they got to meet Cameron who is full of energy. They were also writing speeches because it's an opportunity to be a leader in the school. Zane’s highlight was making electric circuits because you could press a button and the doorbell and fan worked at the same time. Isla used finding humour by having fun on leadership day

Zane used striving for accuracy to make sure that everything worked and that it didn’t fail. 5J learnt how to make electrical circuits to understand how electricity works!

5M

5M enjoyed doing the leadership day with Cameron because they learnt how to be a leader by playing games. They also enjoyed doing sci-fi (Science fiction) because they could be really creative when writing their masterpieces.

Lachlan used persistence when confronted with difficult tasks in the leadership day.

Charli used the HoM striving for accuracy to make sure that her work was completed correctly. In sport, Charli found out the correct technique to shoot a basketball properly. In Yr 5 they found out that to make a circuit in electricity there must not be a break in the power, otherwise, the circuit will not work.

Year 6

In Term 4, Year 6 has really enjoyed Confirmation and the Activate Fire day as they have taken a huge leap in their faith journey and formed a closer connection with God. Year 6 celebrated Confirmation by sharing a huge cake and reflecting on the Sacrament they made. Year 6 also took part in a day called Activate Fire, which is where Year 6 got to learn about Confirmation and other Sacraments while reading bible stories and playing group games. And to top it all off they had pizza for lunch! Year 6 has enjoyed learning lots of new skills in AFL. They have learned passing, kicking, handballing, and got to meet players from the Swans! Lately, Year 6 has had to persist a lot as even though Covid has settled down, restrictions are still around and it's hard to keep on top of social distancing. Lily said, “I think it’s good that these restrictions are around because it keeps us alert and we have to pay attention.”
