2/3 Term 1 Timetable

A few new additions to our time table this term. An outline is as followed:

Spanish Vocabulary - We are super lucky to have Imogen joining us to assist with developing students' Spanish Vocab alongside our Spanish teachers. She will be working with all classes once a week.

Explorers - Every Tuesday afternoon the 2/3 students will be heading down to Edgars Creek for 'Los Exploradores'. This will include walks around the creek, bush play, games, Wurundjeri history, experimental art, local flora and fauna. As this is a local excursion their is no permission slips required.

This session will start in week 4 Tuesday 16th February. If you have any questions about 'Los Exploradores' please don't hesitate to speak with your child's teacher.

Numeracy - 'The Builders' program will continue to run with a few slight changes made. Watch this space for more Builders content.

Literacy - Literacy will run in 2 hour blocks and consist of 3 components including reading, writing and Spelling/Vocab.

Inquiry - Our Inquiry topic this term is focused on our School Value 'Care'. Students will be exploring the meaning of care in many different forms as well as developing growth mindset and learning how laws protect us. We are lucky enough to have Shows for Schools coming out to perform a show for us called 'The Happiness Habit' this will link to our inquiry for the term. A permission form has been sent out via Sentral and will need to be completed by Monday 15th February. Please speak to your child's teacher if you have any questions.

*Literacy and Numeracy will both be taught 50/50 English/Spanish

Devices

Students are required to start bringing devices to school every day as of Week 3 Monday 8th February. Devices will need to come to school charged and ready for use. There will be Trolleys available in each classroom for storage. Students are to put their devices in the trolley at the beginning of the day and take them home and the end of the day. Bringing devices in each day will encourage the students to get into a routine and be responsible for their own device. If you still require a device please speak to Graeme in the Office.

Home Readers and Reading Logs

Reading logs will be used this year to help track and encourage student reading. These will be used both in the classroom and at home. This week students have been practising logging books they read in the classroom. Reading logs will begin going home on Monday next week (8th February). Just like last year our take home reading program will be through the online platforms Bugclub and RazKids. If you are having any issues with Bugclub or RazKids please speak with Jose.

Communication

Sentral is the main communication platform and is the best line of contact with your child's home room teacher. Seesaw is used to showcase student learning and is also available as a place to communicate with both Spanish and English teachers about student learning. Please feel to contact teachers at any necessary times. We will also be sharing what is happening in the classroom through the fortnightly Newsletter and Seesaw.

Drop offs and Pick ups

Students are to line up in the quadrangle outside their classrooms at the beginning of the day. At dismissal parents are welcome to wait at the bottom on the ramp under the walk way roof. Teachers will dismiss students from the classroom. If you would like your child to meet at a different location such as the front gate or basketball court please let your their teacher know.

Parent Helpers

The 2/3 Team is super excited to have parents come back into the classroom to read with students. We will be organising this later in the term. If you are interested in this please contact teachers with available day and time and we will create a time table.

Writer's Notebook

We are super excited to announce that Writer's Notebooks have been introduced into the classroom this year. This notebook creates a place for students to keep their ideas and interests in the form of a memory, reflection, a list, a rambling of thoughts, a sketch, or even a scrap of print taped on the page. The notebook serves as a means to encourage young writers to value writing and will be used as a tool throughout the writing process.

Student's have created their own personalised front cover and begun creating topic lists and sharing their interesting.

What's been happening in 2/3!

A few happy snaps of what we have been up since our return to the classroom.
