Specialist Program

Drivers Education- Isobel Bayne

After coming back from remote learning, students in Year 11/12 have really committed to the Drivers Education program. They have covered  topics from BAC (Blood Alcohol Content), injury prevention, crash statistics, road hazards and conditions, car safety features and what it takes to work through the Licence system in Victoria.

They have identified consequences and actions that lead to safe road use and how to be an empathetic driver. Students have continued to successfully practice their online Learners Test, with some outstanding results!

Music- Justin Hall

Students in Elective Groups have done some fantastic work this term.  Instrumental skills were pushed to the limit through band work where classes selected their own tracks to learn.  Students played the instrumental sections of these songs on Keyboards, Bass Guitar, Guitar and Drum Kit.  They have also taken to learning more advanced functions and compositional tools through the program ‘Ableton’.  Students have learnt how to record using MIDI devices, how to manually input notes and how to arrange different instruments into a working beat.

Digital Technology- Jess Mitchell

In Term 4 of the ‘Make Your Own Game’ unit, 11/12 students used the Hopscotch app and Minecraft Education to create their own games. They learned the basics of coding while creating their own version of the games, ‘Geometry Dash’ and ‘Crossy Road’, within the Hopscotch app. Then we worked in groups to create our own Minecraft worlds that others could play. Some chose to form a world that is all about fighting monsters and others created their own buildings to explore. They had to use specific building blocks to create a home base that couldn’t be destroyed and used code to set the spawn point. It was great to have so much fun while learning about gaming and code!

Science - Melinda Mossop

In Term 4, Year 11 and 12 students participated in the Science elective – Planet Earth. Students collaboratively used the Scientific method to question, predict, observe, and record data/information in relation to controlled experiments and designs. For example, students created a designed representation of the five zones of the ocean whilst simultaneously learning about the density of different liquids and the procedure of adding these liquids together in a test tube!  Students also learnt that if they were able to travel to the Abyss Zone of the ocean (the deepest part of the ocean called the Marina trench which is 11 km in depth) that it would be a shorter distance than from Concord School to the City (19km).

Food Technology- Jane Stacey

This Term, we moved in to the new Food Technology Centre and were so excited to use the new space! Students researched and typed up variety of delicious recipes of their choice that they got to prepare over the Semester. Dough week was a popular week, with students making a variety of homemade pizzas, scones and biscuits! All students will finish the term with a special treat of homemade biscuits that they can decorate and take home to share with their families.

Visual Arts - Vera Mitchell

During Term 4 we continued the Visual Art elective program, Textiles. Students were encouraged to engage and share their work that they completed at home. Some of the students were introduced to the sewing machine for the first time. Some of the students were able to tackle the sewing machine with confidence
