In Inquiry, we have been learning about the seasons. Students have learned about different activities that take place in each season and sorted pictures accordingly. Next week, we will learn about how Indigenous communities have six seasons and observe nature to identify seasonal changes.

In Mathematics, our topic is Measurement, and the students have been comparing lengths, identifying the longest and shortest objects and ordering items by length. They have also used non-standard units to measure length. The final two weeks of the term will focus on Mass and Capacity. It would be great if you could support this at home by comparing the weight of objects using vocabulary such as heavy, light, heavier, lighter and equal to.

We are very impressed with how the students are learning the Magic (high-frequency) words. Practising ‘little and often’ is a good way to approach learning new words. Using magnetic letters, whiteboards & pens, and Post-its can help make it fun. One quick, easy idea is to write words on Post-its and use a fly swatter to swat the word as quickly as possible.

Year 1 News

The Year 1 students enjoyed participating in the national simultaneous story time. We read the chosen text for 2023, The Speedy Sloth by Rebecca Young and Heath McKenzie. Then the students did either a sloth mindfulness colouring in worksheet or a guided drawing of a sloth. Some amazing pictures were created!

Year 3 & 4 News

The Years 3 & 4 swimming program has now concluded. The swimming program is always eagerly anticipated by our students and we would like to thank them for their enthusiasm and participation, especially on those cold, wet and windy days.

We would also like to thank our many parent helpers who volunteered their time to support our students over the past two weeks. Your contribution has been greatly appreciated by staff and students alike.

Exploring Sovereign Hill: A Journey Through Time

Hi everyone,

I'm Seb from Year 5, and I want to tell you all about our amazing trip to Sovereign Hill! On Friday, 2nd June, our class set off on an adventure to discover the fascinating world of the Gold Rush.

As the bus pulled out early in the morning, excitement filled the air. We were buzzing with anticipation as we made our way to Sovereign Hill. When we arrived, the first thing we did was try our luck at gold panning. It was like searching for hidden treasure! Guess what? My friends Helena, Lily, and I actually found gold! We were over the moon with our discovery.

Next, we met Madam, a wonderful guide who took us on a journey back in time. She showed us all kinds of artefacts from the 1850s. We learned about the ink and nib pens they used for writing, and she taught us how to write our names in beautiful copperplate cursive. It was like we were writing with the same pens as people did back then! I felt like a real historian.

Did you know that people in the Gold Rush era used to wash themselves with animal fat? It sounds strange, doesn't it? Well, it's true! We learned all about their daily lives and the interesting things they did. It made me appreciate how different life was back then.

After a delicious lunch, we got to explore even more. We played on the playground and had a blast! Then, we strolled through the streets of Sovereign Hill, taking in the sights and sounds of the past. We watched candles being made, tried our hand at bowling, and even visited a hotel with barrels of beer. It was like stepping into a different world.

One of the highlights was going into the old theatre. It was magnificent! We imagined what it would have been like to watch a play there, with people in fancy costumes performing on stage. We also saw a horse and carriage trotting up the street, just like they used to do in the olden days. It was so cool!

Before heading back to the bus, we had the chance to go shopping. I bought some boiled sweets for my family and even got a paper twirler and a fan for myself. It was like being in a real old-fashioned store!

I had an incredible time exploring Sovereign Hill with my friends. I loved learning about the artefacts and experiencing what life was like during the Gold Rush. It was a day filled with fun, discovery, and new friendships. I can't wait for our next adventure!

Year 6 News

On Thursday, the Marine Ambassadors from Year 6 did their first presentation to 1B. They taught the students about sea creatures and how to help care for our oceans.

Well done to Sophia, Alice, Arthur, Meredith and Jace. Manaswi will also be joining them for future presentations to the Prep-Year 2 classes. You all did a fantastic job!
