Mid Term 2 progress reports were released to families on Friday. Make sure you spend some time looking at this information with your child, as positive classroom work habits lead to positive academic achievement. We have to remember that we all can’t be the best student in every class, but we can all aspire to building strong work habits in class that can be celebrated. All students should all be able to achieve a level of 3 in each of the areas assessed.
Students will be completing this annual survey during this week and the data collected helps to bring about change in the school. While we always have to follow rules, like confiscating phones from students who continue to use them throughout the school day, the results from last year’s AtoSS have seen teachers working on improving student voice and agency in classes over this term. Teachers worked in year level groups to trial incorporating various activities such as providing the opportunity for more collaboration, making their learning more visible to students and seeking student input and feedback about certain classroom activities.
Friday 26th was National Sorry Day. This day is to remember and acknowledge the hurt and damage caused by our governments when they forcibly removed Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children from their families, communities and cultures. While we can’t change what has happened in the past, it is so important that we all learn from the mistakes made in history to ensure that they are never repeated.
National Reconciliation Week runs from 27th May to 3rd June. The theme for this year’s Reconciliation Week is ‘Be a voice for a generation’. Our past Attitudes to School survey data has often shown that our students feel like they don’t have much of a voice in their learning and school environment, perhaps this year is the time to become “a voice for a generation” and to start the conversations about what change can and can’t occur.
Friday 9th June: Student free day for report writing.
Monday 12th June: King’s Birthday public holiday.
