Captains Corner

From our Boarding Captains, Allegra and Juilianna

As a boarder at Clayfield College, there are many challenges and experiences every girl goes through in the boarding house. These aid in the development of many amazing qualities at a young age, including:

Independence and Responsibility. Boarding schools promote independence and self-discipline. Living away from home, you have to take responsibility for managing your time, studying, completing assignments, and balancing your academic and personal life. We develop essential life skills and learn to be self-reliant.

Another is Community and Friendships. Living in close proximity with our fellow students fosters a strong sense of community. We have the chance to form long-lasting friendships with our peers from diverse backgrounds. The supportive and social atmosphere creates a sense of belonging and sisterhood. There are also students from different parts of the world e.g. Hong Kong, Thailand, Solomon Islands and even Abu Dhabi. This diversity offers rich cultural exchange, allowing you to learn about different traditions, languages, and perspectives.

This week is National Boarding Week. A week, where as a community, we are able to showcase the diversity within boarding and celebrate everything to do with it.

Throughout this week there have been activities held for the boarders, such as trivia nights, invite your favourite teacher to dinner, a disco and a colour run to end the week. The girls also get dessert every night, which is rather popular.

Tuesday and Wednesday night trivia events included many entertaining questions, such as “who set off the fire alarm on ANZAC day?” and “who is the loudest in the boarding house?”. Along with inviting your favourite staff member for dinner on Wednesday, the girls will enjoy an in-house disco on the Friday night where they can release their inner “dancing queens”.

Dr Cousins also kindly gifted us some popcorn makers, for us all to enjoy during this and the coming weeks, so we can enjoy some snacks during our movie nights, especially after exam block when we can relax a bit more.

We are also very excited about celebrating another year of winning “Boarding School of the Year”. As we are such a tightly knit community this award means so much to all of us girls.
