ICT News!

School of the Good Shepherd acknowledges that technology has profoundly changed our communities. In order to thrive in our society, students need to confidently demonstrate the General Capabilities of the Australian Curriculum. These include managing their own behavior, being empathetic and socially aware, acting ethically, demonstrating respect and intercultural understanding, using literacy and numeracy in powerful ways, thinking critically and creatively and demonstrating confidence and proficiency in their safe and responsible use of digital technologies.

At SoGS we believe we have a responsibility to support students to develop “Digital Citizenship”, the skills and dispositions to become safe, responsible, critical and creative users of technology.

Students develop these dispositions through:

Integration of digital technologies across learning areas, participation in Digital Citizenship and cyber-safety focused learning/workshops, including through Health and the Child Protection Curriculum, as well as continued monitoring, support and guidance by our staff.

Occupational Health and Safety

At our school the safety of all of our community is of the utmost importance. Please remember that when leaving the school ball games are not permitted to be played on the yard (Tiger Turf/Basketball Courts) as we have many people walking to collect children etc. Also a gentle reminder to remind your children to be safe and aware when exiting the school from the Kiss & Drop and Back Gate exits.

Please continue to be vigilant and report any slippery areas or tripping hazards on the playground to fpiccione@sogsgpark.catholic.edu.au.

A gentle reminder about taking care on Burnleigh Drive and the request to avoid turning right out of the gate from 3.15 -3.45pm to prevent congestion. It's important for everyone to be considerate and follow these guidelines to ensure the smooth flow of traffic which can impact the Kiss & Drop area.

Physical Education / School Sports!

Welcome back to another exciting Term of Health, Physical Education and Sport at SOGS! We really ended the first semester with a bang! We start off our sport report with the confirmation of the finishing positions of the West Interschool Sport Season.

Our Touch Rugby Team finished a respectable 3rd place. After what was a quieter season than normal, the Touch Rugby Titans were not able to hold onto their undefeated record after meeting Aitken College. Brilliantly led by Co Captains Ethan S and Thomas L and by our Touch Football Coach Ms Kelly, the students learnt and built on many skills that will hold them in good stead for 2024!

Our Netball Super Stars Girls Team finished 4th overall. A mixture of strong wins and some admirable losses had our Girls Netball Team challenging the opposition every week. Our Mixed Netballers unfortunately went winless throughout the competition but made big improvements every week under the watchful eye of our Supercoach Mrs McNamara!

Our European Handball Girls and Mixed Team finished the season in 5th and 6th respectively with a mixture of some wins and losses. Quite a different game to the everyday sports we are usually used to, these students took this wonderful quick paced game like a duck to water. Under the careful supervision of Ms Lee, they did a fantastic job in representing the school.

After a very strong start to the season our Mini Matildas finished the season in 4th position. Scoring 13 goals for the season and only conceding 8 was a fantastic effort! Our Mixed Team also started strongly and missed out on finals by 2 points. Finishing in 3rd position it was a great season and we definitely have a bright future ahead of us in the world of soccer!

Towards the end of the Term, the Essendon Football Club visited our year 5 and 6 students to discuss all things AFL.

Matt Guelfi and Brandon Zerk-Thatcher answered a variety of questions that our students had formulated and were eager to find out from these modern day champions! Some of the discussion points were based around how to be good leaders, strategies in regards to being persistent when things don’t go your way and working hard to achieve your goals.

The Broadmeadows AFL Gala Day took  place on Thursday 15th of June at Jacana Reserve. The modified 9 a side version gave some selected students a chance to engage in our national game! SoGS fielded two teams for the first time in 5 years and they did not disappoint. With many of our students having experience in playing at local clubs, our students relished in this modified version. The Girls team played a gutsy and courageous style of football throughout the day. Brilliantly led by Ms Kelly and supported by parents David and Gerry, the girls fought hard but just missed out on playing in the finals.

The Boys team coached by Mr P and Nick (Parent Helper) played with their heart on their sleeves and represented SoGS with passion, flair and tenacity. Unfortunately they missed out on the final too but a memory that will stay long in the hearts and minds of our students and our spectators was the courageous comeback win from behind against a very strong and determined Westmeadows team.

Congratulations to Joseph H (Year 3) who has been invited to participate in trials for the Budding Broncos Squad for Basketball. An excellent achievement and we wish Joseph all the best!

Finally a huge congratulations to Luke T in year 5 who competed at the Northern Metro Regional Finals in Cross Country at the Kilmore Racing Track. Luke finished the race in the top 30 and produced an amazing effort against the best students in the Northern Region. Congratulations to Luke for all the hard work and dedication he showed throughout the competition.
